Not to open a can of worms or anything, but what distributor should I be shopping for? I have a vacuum advance that came with the engine case from a EFI car, but the vacuum diaphram hits the single carb manifold that I've installed. I'm starting with a 30 PICT carb, but hope to move to a Holly two barrel at some point. I"m currently leaning towards a mechanical advance distrubutor with electronic points. This is on a dune buggy that really won't be too performance oriented.

Get a Bosch Mexican vacuum/mechanical distributor from aircooled.net.

And forget the Holly 2 barrel, they don't work well on VW engines.

If you want a purely mechanical, then get a Bosch 019, it's much better than the Chinese 009 knockoffs.

If this is a street legal fiberglass dunebuggy for street driving then get the SVDA from aircooled.net as mentioned. If this is an off road sand buggy and will never be driven on the street then go to a swap meet and buy a used genuine Bosch German 009.

I've never looked at a bugspray up close and personal but that one in the picture looks like a 2 barrel.....two main jet access screws in the bowl but a single inlet throat and single bowl vent like a rochester or carter 2 barrel.

Single throat...single barrell......am I wrong on this line of thinking? And to the guy who says the bugspray works well....yes, they're awesome....had one on my first bug, a 1972 super when I was 16....

It has one CHOKE butterfly but 2 main jets. 2 jets means 2 barrels. They are very old skool design and that's basically what all 2 barrel carbs looked like back in the 60's and 70's

Smile When first starting to work on bugs in 68-9 had a 40 HP case with a 83 BB kit and a Holly bug spray #300 on a split intake manifold. Two mixture screws and easy to adjust compared to the Zenith with the screws towards the fan housing. Dual cannon exhaust that gave a mellow sound all inside a New dunebuggy I built from a 60 bug...shortened chassis and all.

We learn...don't we?

Yup, e.g., Zenith 32 NDIX.

So your diaphragm hits the manifold. Rotate it 90 degrees and re-index your plug wires.
