|
|
Anyone running the 6 1/2 inch wide Flat 4s? What tire size did you go with? Post pic/s?
Still deciding on the following BRM reps for my '66 sedan:
1. New EMPIs - 15x5 ET 14
2. MWS - 15x4.5F & 15x5.5R ET 11
3. Flat 4 - 15x5F ET 5 & 15x6.5R ET 12
Hard to decide without seeing results on each car...
This has been a great forum and a wealth of info. Thanks again in advance! |

I using Flat4 wheel on my Manxter.
Fronts 15x5 with 235/15 Rears 15x 6.5 with 33/10.50-15.
They are a tough wheel, holding up well to off road abuse.

Joseph - Amazing & very cool! You should send a pic over the Flat-4 guys in Japan as a testament to their wheel's durability! An action shot would certainly make their website...
Wonder if the 6 1/2" wheel is used on a street car out there... Anyone? |

While I haven't used them, the 6 1/2" wheels have the advantage of being able to mount a wider tire properly (better handling). There are a number of tire sizes that are suitable- 205/60 (24.68"), 205/65 (25.5"), 205/70 (26.29"), 215/60 (25.15") and even 225/55 (24.74") or 225/60 (25.62") will fit that rim. How the wider sizes will fit in your rear fenderwells is the question; what year is your car and is it swingaxle (long or short?) or irs? _________________ On a lifelong mission to prove (much to my wife's dismay) that Immaturity is Forever!! |

'66 sedan, short axle. I am wanting to mount a 205/70R 15 in the rear. Going for a Cal-look stance. Right now, the plan is 15x5 all around with 145R up front on a 4" narrowed beam. Was just curious to see the 6.5" wheel mounted on a car... |

When I bought mine Moon Speed Equipment were the dealer for Flat4. In their catalog (which I can't find) it had a black and white photo of a bug with the 6 1/2in on the back with tire sitting inside the fender.
I just measure mine, from where it sets against drum to outer lip (little lip on very edge) it measures approx 3in.
The front 5in wide measure approx 2 1/2in to very outer lip.
With what I have measure it only about 1/2in wider on the outside then the 5in wheel. _________________ Joseph

That's an awfully tall tire so I hope you have lots of motor to turn it, otherwise it will cost you 1/2- 3/4 second in the 1/4 mile... _________________ On a lifelong mission to prove (much to my wife's dismay) that Immaturity is Forever!! |

Thanks for the pics guys - awesome cars. Good to see the 6.5" fits even with a 215!! But sticking with a 205/70... (acceleration will suck until the new motor is dropped in next year). |

Not to thread jack, but what can us guys with BRM's or empi 5's do to not have to run that specific dust cover clearing cap? I'm about o pull the trigger on some BMR's and I don't want to have to by that taller center cap. I want to run the stocker.
Thanks guys. _________________ "Ruby" my 1957 Pro Street Oval. 2332 w/ 48IDA's. Woo-Hoo!!! |

I modified the grease cap to be as low profile as possible (basically 1mm or less from the end of the spindle), then drilled a 4-5mm hole in the centre of the centre cap for the speedo cable tip to protrude through, its barely noticable from more than 6ft away _________________ Aust. RHD 66 Type 1

Yeah they really should just extend the "nose" of the rim 1/4" and clearance would never be a issue _________________ Aust. RHD 66 Type 1

Yes. |
Anyone know if this car is running drop spindles?
I’m debating on 4.5 or 5 up front. _________________ Rock, stock and 2 smoking tail pipes. |
