Got the other windshield in and some side window glass in the doors. Tried the Dormobile rack on it.

My 10/55 does not have tube around the shift rod, just short tubes at the tophats.

by the looks of the pic, that is an early bus which probably does not have the tube around the shift rod.

Hadn't started "The Toaster" since April (2011) when we completely rewired her, after which the transmission (original) got jealous and gave up the ghost.

Plenty of juice was left in battery; just had to "prime the pump" by putting about seven cat food tins worth of gas into the carburetor (one at a time) until gas started flowing through the lines/filters again.
Barely got it into something which was almost a first gear (no reverse either), and managed to drive it out to our trusted mechanic in second gear (with no Triple-A assist.). He'll be putting in a rebuilt transmission ...if all goes well, should have it back next weekend... naturally there are plenty of other projects looming...

It's always just about time and money (which we never have enough of either), but we're hoping to get our Westy back onto the road for weekends by Christmas at the latest!

My water heater in my house went out. Off to Lowes in the pouring rain in the late 59 dc. Drove around town with Mintonman's wiper kit in action, while the new water heater was upright tied to my roof rack. The wiper kit worked killer, but did not want to turn off for a few minutes.

On my 63 15-window:
Set the valves, changed the oil, misc. stuff.

Installed a new 6v, 50 amp regulator I located recently.
Old regulator was only putting out 6.7/6.8 volts. Voltage output is now 7.2/7.3v, read at the battery + terminal.

I swear it sounded like it was running nicer at idle with the new regulator but maybe that was the reset valves. Smile

^^^ I can see the entire ignition system benefitting from a 17% increase in voltage- it makes things smile. I'll never be able to prove how.

I rarely dive in here- but I finally peeled enough of the PO's roof tar off the firewall to reveal a panel befitting seatbelts. I also attempted to weld a midseat mounting plate to a rusty floor. What metal remained was so thin- I was extremely sloppy- burn through-o-rama. It's not likely the seat will pull- but thank goodness I only have one kid.

Removed all the seats from the 66 doublecab over the weekend. I had to weld up one broken spring and de-mouse and rat all of the frames and springs.

After I cleaned them all I repainted the frames so they're ready for new covers, pads and burlap.

I salvaged the rear backrest material for anyones that interested. I'll have an ad up today sometime.

I had some 14" bias ply tires mounted today, they are NOS and the beads were almost touching from being stacked up for so long. I thought it was really cool how Joe the old school tire guy got the beads to seat.

Awesome. I've had guys wrap a tie down around the diameter of the tire, which squeezes the center "out", but that looked like a lot more fun!

Got my pedal pan installed. Gave up on two broken and stuck bolts. It seems I have plenty (more than Cool to hold it on. I will need a couple of larger washers for two of the screws. . . I got the HW from VolksBolts on ebay. Learned how to chase threads and was reminded how much working on my back, overhead gets the arms tired quickly. . .

My powder coat guy is awesome! I will try to learn how to follow the rules to run a link or a recommendation for a Powder Coat guy here on the Samba.
