When
Dec 4 2011
12:00 PM

Location
Marymoor Park
6046 W. Lake Sammamish Pkwy. N.E.
Redmond, WA 98052

How to find us
"Look for the Westies"
We'll be meeting at Parking Lot D, see the park map at the following link http://your.kingcounty.gov/dnrp/library/parks-and-...web_09.pdf

(in case you don't know, parking costs $1 in the park)

Parking lot D is in front of the Off-Leash Dog Area, so bring your dog if you want to have him happy and run!

Why/What ?
Brave the elements and come out to Marymoor Park for a Westy Show and Tell Meetup. This is the weekend just after Thanksgiving and just before the holiday madness begins, so may be your last chance for a while to talk about Westy projects and adventures. The idea for this one is to tell the group a little about your van and perhaps some of the best mods or projects that you have made. Consider bringing some comfort food (chiili, soup, etc) to help you stay warm while we meet.

Background
A couple of weeks ago there was a very nice VW meeting at the XXX in Issaquah, with lots of Vanagon in attendance. Everybody had a great time, and there were lots of talk about trying to set up a Vanagon meeting.

Thread for the XXX meeting: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=484699

A couple of years ago I helped organized a meetup in Flaming Geyser State Park, so I thought I could give it a try again. Since Flaming Geyser State Park requires a Discover Pass, I decided to switch the meeting to Marymoor.

Thread for the original meetup in 2009 (almost the same date!):

I would consider coming up for the weekend. Anyone up for some syncro trails on Saturday? Where do the Seattle syncros go for offroading? Tahuya, Elbe Hills, Evans Creek, Walker Valley? Any of these places syncro friendly?

There is also a Portland Meet the following Sunday 12/11/11

I'm in, and I'll bring the tencentlife engine. Smile

Hugo - I'll drop Daryl and Kirk a note and see if they can make it.

I will try to make it. I've mostly lurked and used the search function on this site and I'm still relatively new to Vanagons (bought my Multivan in June 2010). It would be nice to put faces to names and vans. And I would dig seeing a tencent engine in action.

Thanks for organizing this meetup.

Brian

I'll be there. It will be great to meet some other Vanagon owners. Most of my friends think I'm crazy to daily drive my Westy.

i'm new to seattle after a couple years of wandering. it would be cool to meet the owners of some of these vans that i see absolutely everywhere!

though as with everything that occurs during the colder half of the year, my "yes" actually means "only if the conditions aren't good for snowboarding that day".

Well, this begs the question... Anyone else snow-camp up at Crystal? How about a Westy/Boarding/Skiing campout? Smile

(It's fun to get there early on a Friday and steal a 120V hookup before the Class A RVs show up!)

Perhaps I might put in a rare cameo appearance, if my agent gives me the green light. Autographs are probably out of the question

I used to camp in the Crystal parking lot in the back of my Ford Ranger with a canopy. We had bivy sacks and mountaineering bags so it wasn't bad in that regard, but they plow the lots way before the lifts start, so you have a long cold morning. No one asked us to leave... but that was 7-8 years ago

Hmmm.. Might be the motivation I need to wrap up the TurboTransporter resto and actually drive it again!

I'll ping some of the Kitsap County Volks and try to make a nusiance of our bad selves on the ferry. Laughing

Oh, you can camp in Lot A for $10.00/night (or $20.00/night if you want 120V). No need to move for the plows, but you would be wise to bring a shovel to dig out your car when you're ready to leave Smile

We snow camp alot, at Crystal Springs Snow-Park for XC skiing and dogsledding. Yet to try it at Crystal resort, but we are planning on it at Stevens this season. Would be psyched to have a Westy snow campout at a ski area later this year.

Will keep this Marymoor meetup on the calendar, and hope to make it.

On the calendar...though might be headed up to Whistler that day...

We have camped at Crystal...with and without 120 AC. Hike down from the Snorting Elk apres ski is always an adventure.
