Come on, guys... do the math. $150 plus $85 = $235.00. Now, price out one of those POS repro replacement dashes with shipping and then go find ANY good used dashes, or NOS ones, available, anywhere.
This is not a bad deal if you really need a dash and these are as nice as they seem. |
$235 is not a bad deal at all as I was hoping someone in the U.S. would have it and I could use a visa/debit,cash or personal check purchase.

This is not a bad deal if you really need a dash and these are as nice as they seem. All this cheapness is going to make any vendor in the USA thinking of picking this account up think twice and probably decline.
Everybody in this crowd is always YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! about somebody starting up the manufacture of NLA parts, UNTIL there winds up being actual money involved. This is why Bert never pursued actual 100% correct dash pads. He had no reason to want to spend tens of thousands to tool up and make a bunch of dashes... only to have to pay rent to store them when all you bastids cheaped out at the price.
I mean, come ON. Two tanks of Premium will cost you as much as the damn shipping. |
i used to use fedex for about 99% of my shipping. now even they are getting out of line. and i've had an account with them for years which supposedly gives you an 8-20% discount. i shipped a package from nc to tx the other day. just under 4lbs and it was $10. i remember sending a similar package to tx a year or so ago that weighed a little more and it was $6ish.
shipping is a racket. and with all the hubbub about the usps's trouble and probable demise the other guys are starting to show their greed even more.
i wish i would have checked if the package would have fit a flatrate usps. it would have cost me gas to drive 5-6 miles outta my way but it would have still been cheaper. i used fedex because they are a block from my work. i'll dirve out of the way from now on.
oh and trying to get an online quote with them has gotten plain stupid. the last 4-5 times it was 20-60% above what online said when i got to the location to ship. and if i arange pick up and it's different once in their hands they just charge it to my account...ken.... _________________ ITMC

It's not that $235 is too much or expensive. It's a good deal. I'm just looking for a cheaper way to do things like everyone else out there. I mean when buying a car, you can't tell me you pay what you see on the sticker?
I just look for discounts, especially being in Cali, I can go pick most of the parts up from the warehouses around. Just hoping this could have been one more of those things. _________________ 1971 VW Squareback - My Project - My Gallery

this isn't like buying a new or even a used car; you are looking at an item that is NLA until this batch run.... and will be NLA if this batch isn't sold out without all the usual whining and bitching that goes along with any new/reproduced part that people go out of their way to crank up a production run of....

keep holding out for that discount: this production run will be done & gone and you'll be looking for a shitty repop that doesn't fit worth a damn and shreds itself the first time it gets cold and shrinks too much.... _________________ póg mo thóin

That's what I'm saying. The shipping from South Africa (correction noted) looks like a hell of a deal. I really don't see any savings to shipping them twice. Even in a bulk shipment from SA, there will be some shipping charges tacked on to each unit, then you've got repacking/ reboxing, shipping from the drop point in USA to you, and so on. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! What did I start?
I have no problem with the price of the unit. Its more than fair and I hope Retrovan sells lots of them. But the seller doesn't make anything on the shipping, so a bulk deal where 4 or 5 guys local to each other send one collective payment and get one shipment makes economic sense for everyone involved except the shipping company, and frankly, I don't care about the shipping company.
So no one reads this thread and thinks I'm some kind of cheapwad, this is my pledge to buy one unit and have it shipped to me all by itself in its very own box. Besides, mine is the only Type 3 I've seen in my area since I moved here in July. A group buy wouldn't work for me. It might for some of the SoCal guys though. _________________ Robert Bills

Thanks, the units will be for sale at $150 US, excluding postage/shipping
Surface mail, postage and packaging cost approx. $85 US
Payment by PayPal or Bank transfer.
Will be looking for bulk distributor,
VW Sales & Part guys give me a call
Direct e-mail;- [email protected]

i am in for 1 dash at least.
if there is anyone in the southeast part of the usa that wants one,i would be willing to help out with the distribution of these if it will help the cause.
just like some have said people like this dont come around too offen. taking there time and money to tackle a great cause.
i may have some connections in the shipping here in the usa to make it a little cheaper. but no promises.
one other thing that has not been mentioned is the possiblity of a few dashes being sent to a couple different areas and then meeting up at a show to be picked up.
herman email sent
thanks for you dedication |

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the post's.
You are right, the shipping is a pain, BUT, we are driving obsolete cars, and our only option is to help each outer out with our skills.
The up side is that the cost in rebuilding will increase the value of your car, and the more obsolete it becomes, the more valuable.
Now the shipping company has not got the love of our cars, other then the love of money, so we all have to byte the bullet, or should I say the WayBill,
Most of you only have a few parts shipped, We here in south Africa, have a few parts NOT shipped.
Please use this few days to contact guys around you , order a number of dashes together, and have a local Meet, when they get there.
Excuse to party........
Will inform ,with Photo's , on this thread when ready for shipping.
Regards

I'm not saying that I'm holding out for a discount. I said that I was looking for one. If one isn't given than I will be buying at regular price.
I'm saying it doesn't hurt to ask. The worst you can hear is no. No need to get all in a frenzy about this. If someone wants one they'll buy one, plain and simple. _________________ 1971 VW Squareback - My Project - My Gallery
