Is anyone familair with a Audi that looks sort of like a Model 181? LIke from the 70's (but that is a guess on my part).
My neighbor (service manager for a Porshe Audi dealer) told me the owner of his place just bought one that sort of looks like a Thing, and that it should be showing up shortly. He told me that they ordered up brake lines for it from Argentina.
I figured someone here might know something about it. |

Maybe look for the VW/Bombader Iltis?
4 wheel drive (early Audi unit). Available here and there in the classifieds here, like this:
From the Samba classifieds. They are a hoot to drive and very very nimble!

I swear I have a picture of a prototype Audi or Porsche 4wd vehicle but am currently unable to find it in my files. I will keep looking. It was an uber rare vehicle with only a few made.
Edit: added three pics below of the Porsche Jadgwagen.
My money is on the DKW Munga!

DKWs were well known for rallying, winning the 1956 East African Safari Rally and the Finnish Thousand Lakes. The Auto Union 1000 had outright victory in the 1958 Safari and 1959 Acropolis Rallies.
By the late 50s Mercedes Benz had acquired 88% of Auto-Union shares. In 1958 the Junior model was produced. This and its successors went through to 1966, along with the F102 a more modern 1175cc two stroke machine, and the Munga, a 4 wheel drive ‘Jeep’ like vehicle.
In the mid 60s Volkswagen took control of Auto Union GmbH from Mercedes Benz, and the days of two stroke DKW and Auto Union cars were over. The F102 being adapted to take a four stroke engine to become the first post war Audi. |

Mmmmm, Rabbit/Scirroco engine, very capable vehicles. If you look at the Northwest Mogfest thread in the Vanagon Forum, there is some video of one this last year.
It would be really cool if it was a Munga. Either way, take some pics and update the thread when you find out.

A guy up the street had an Iltis sitting in his driveway last winter then it disappeared--I'm hoping it will come back all fixed up someday! |

Well it is a 1961 Munga. 3 cylinder with 3 coils and 2 12 volt batteries. 4 bolt 16" wheels. It looks to be 4 wheel drive all of the time. Apparently it was delivered to the German Military Police. Looks sort of out of place with all of those big money Porsche and Audis at the dealer's shop.
Give me a minute and I will see if I can post a couple of pictures.

All in all it looked like a pretty rugged little platform with a pretty basic design. I guess it drives pretty well even with the kobby military type tires. I did not see a lot of rust on it. Pretty thick metal was used. I should have looked under there for a transfer case, but I did not.
My buddy told me that the brake lines are kind of funky with a pretty unusual small diameter, which is why they could not locally source them.
High funk factor though. |

This is the Porsche Audi dealer's private baby (along with the best 1967 21 window bus I have ever seen... and I have seen a few).
Pretty interesting though. |

There is one of those that has been for sale locally for a while. The whole idea of a seized, non-running, 2 stroke 3 cylinder DKW engine scares me. |

Ha ha, I use to race a 71 DKW 125 dirt bike...
Is it not running because it "stuck" or just from sitting?
