thought i'd share some pics of my old house bus. i built this back in 95 . yah, i was a dead head and already toured for years in a bus but i was ready to roll in a little more style . so i let my imagination fly and ended up with this . after the dead scene shifted that year, i still traveled and was 'on the road' as a way of life . for many more years, the bus was home off and on between relationships and living in asia. i am more settled down now,so i let my ex girlfriend have it . knowing she had the desire to keep it going. it's a little weathered from the years ,but she has started to refinish the wood work and paint.

it's a 75 with 2.0L fi that i swapped out of my old 79 (that i bought in 88 ) .and it did pretty good pushing with all that weight . i did go through some p/c 's. but only dropped a valve seat once. and never threw or spun a bearing .i did rebuild a few times and had the crank ground once. but that case was always true. it has a big oil cooler on the side which really helped. and a full set of gauges to fret over
wind of course was the bigger issue. i never felt i was getting blown over but a good head wind would change my plans for the day!
believe it or not, the cops never messed with me either , i think that it was done in a nice enough way that it always made people smile .

for me the vw bus helped inspire two decades of amazing adventures, and incredible life experiences .and yes ,i'll always be grateful for that!

but nowadays i drive a karmann ghia ,

(and have short hair)

Wow, that thing is fantastically cool. Sure wouldn't want it as a daily driver but once in a while or just putting it up on blocks and charging admission. Looks like awesome workmanship and attention to detail. Was it drug induced inspiration?
What kind of comments did you get with it?

Beautiful work! Normally I'm a fan of stock, but I think that's the best customi bus I've ever seen.

Beautiful Craftmanship, and is probably the best custom Bus I have ever seen too. I thought my Westfalia was bad in the wind, but that thing must be a hell of a kite waving in the wind. But still awesome I must say

I'd be honored to have that as part of my collection. So well done and tasteful. First in line if she wants to sell.

Now I think of it, the pictures I have are of it's spiritual friend. I hope they are on my netbook. If not someone else probably has them. Wood inside and a little wood burner stove. Anyone know it?
