|
|
Are the rear trailing arms on a 14" syncro the same as a 2wd vanagon? I just looked at my syncro rear and the spring (somehow) wedged backwards into the "nipple" on the trailing arm and it, the nipple", is almost ripped off towards the back. I put on OME's a few months ago because that spring was broken. I am wondering if the broken spring made this piece weak. Not sure what to do, but was thinking the easiest would be to replace that rear trailing arm with a used one. Thanks
I didn't take pictures because I didn't have the camera. _________________ 86 bostig SYNCRO

thank you. Will replacing the whole trailing arm mess with the alignment of the vehicle? _________________ 86 bostig SYNCRO

The rear ends are the same on 2wd and syncro. If you have access to a decent welder you can weld that plate back onto the trailing arm if a donor piece isn't easy to locate. Rust forms in between the trailing arm and the spring perch and it allows the factory spot welds to fail. I had this failure happen on my truck many moons ago. |

In the rear, yes. They are adjustable for toe and camber by the bolts that go through the rubber bushings. |

I will post pictures tomorrow. I can weld, but just thought that it would be better to replace it. Once I post a pic, I will say why I thought on replacing the arm _________________ 86 bostig SYNCRO

If you do replace a arm replace both of them. Welding some beads around the perimeter of the spring perch is a good idea before installing it to reinforce the 4 small factory spot welds. |
