I've got a 3-4 year old Garmin Nuvi 255W. Have quite liked it. Especially the fact that I can zoom out to a 3D topo map (that sold me). I like that when doing long stretches where there is no turn navigating to be done. I see what the upcoming terrain is like, valley bottom, climbs over passes and down into the next valley etc. Upcoming open landscape, mountains, water etc is easily anticipated .
Last time I did some shopping I didn't think the newer version had a topo map that looked as good.
My battery discharged after a period of disuse this year and while it seems to be fully charged the unit seems to be acting up a bit. Low battery warning at times and starts to shut down despite the fact it is plugged in. Perhaps it's time to start shopping. |

That happened to me last year. The 12v male plub (cigarette lighter plug) was coming apart internally, causing loss of power. Taking it apart and screwing the components back together firmly fixed the problem. |
