does anyone have literature that lists dealers by their 3 digit number?

i recently bought some NOS parts with the tags on them and they all have the same dealer number. i'm curious what dealer these parts were delivered to.

What are the three digits?
I've seen 6 digits on most stuff I bought. Only as far back as the 80's
My local dealer is 402309. this is Waterloo, Iowa

I have a "Volkswagen Distributors Regions and Dealers in North & Central America" booklet from 1982. The numbers are listed in a six number format.
For instance 402/309 is listed as Forest Hills Motors, 750 S Hacket Road, Waterloo

Let me know if I can help

The first three digits always refer to the region of the US where the dealer is; the dealer in Schenectady NY where I used to work is # 408-352, and their separate Audi dealership in Latham is 408-A02.

I have an old dealer list book in my desk at work; if everyone else comes up empty, I'll look in my book on Monday.

Small world sometimes, that's for sure. Nemer is still in business, albeit with a new building within the past 2 or 3 years, but I worked for another dealer. My folks bought their 2nd VW from them, as well as a few others over the years. My wife's '02 Jetta came from there too.

Can I assume you lived in the capital region back then? My family lived down near Kingston up until October of '73, when they moved to this area.
