|
|
Been looking at buying or building a box to house my Porta Potty similar to the optional ones sold in Europe.
These appear to have been made of the same material as the cabinets.
Any suggestions on what type material to use?
Any others who have already duplicated one of these?
I'd very much like this box to match the rest of my '86 Westy's interior.

I don't know about where you live, but here we have a home repair/building supply store called Home Hardware that has Formica in a shade that matches the Westy interior.
Here is a photo of my propex/porta-john hiding place with selves laminated with this stuff. You could build your box with this, then top with cushion, or hide in the old fridge loction like I did.

Mine's in a built box (removable lid), covered in matching fabric, big cushion on top = extra seat and/or hassock. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

I bought one of the original Westfalia Porta potty boxes off ebay from a delightful couple from Florida. Great Box, well built and it makes a great seat in the van. Plus it is an exact match for my interior. There is room in there for not only a Porta Potty (Domentic), but TP and cleaning supplies.
If you want one of the originals, there is a source in Canada.

It's a bit spendy and the shipping charges will kill you.
If you camp (and drink beer), I highly recommend having a porta potty.
3 am and the sound of the Westie side door opening and closing does not go over well with your fellow campers. |

Interesting site BUT water closet REALLY expensive. I too have room for TP and cleaning and solution supplies. Anyone looking for hot Vanagons might like to mark that site. Just north of Mtl? _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

My original built box just turned out to be too heavy and too bulky as I have a smaller salon floor area due to the Riviera design of a double depth fridge and a furnace. I then bought a collapsable ottoman which I used last year but now I am considering just making a pull on topper and to use bungee cords to temporarily fix it to the rear of the passenger front seat. If the fridge doesn't work this year then i would think of ripping it out and making it into storage (cleaning supplies, etc...) and my Luggable Loo. The only thing I am sure of is that I need this feature _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...
