Dont worry about the paint/fender beading issue. Mine was sprayed over about 15yrs ago and have had 0 cracking or any issues as a result. granted it was sprayed over once before that back in the early 80's so no big deal. I just didnt want to deal with some nasty looking fender bolts at the time but yea, removing fenders etc would be the correct way to do it. Looks good so far and like the color choice too Smile

Picture of the door panel installed, well passenger side but the driver's side looks the same lol, and can kind of see the assist strap installed there in the top left of the pic.

New fender beading is only $14, I'm getting the new stuff and installing it. Definitely like the look of the black beading better, and already planned on scoring it with a very sharp razor knife to avoid peeling unnecessary paint off. Not on top of my priority list though, getting the rest of the car finished first.
Took the front tires off and changed the shocks, got new shocks made for the lowered beetles, the KYB kind not EMPI. Noticed my driver's side brake line has a notch cut in it, almost all the way through. Looks like it got pinched somehow, so ordered a new one today at work it'll be in tomorrow.
Thanks for all the compliment so far guys, I'll keep the pics coming. Hopefully better ones from my camera instead of from my phone.

Then I went up front and decided to put on the new headlight rings and eyebrows. Went with the premium headlight rings, not the cheap stuff.

Then put the new chrome trim back on. Took it off so a buddy of mine could buff out the paint, well that hasn't happened yet so I put the trim back on so it wouldn't take a chance of getting damaged just lying around.

Tomorrow I am going to tackle the doors. Have all new parts for it, including new window scrapers and vent windows. First going to take the regulators out and clean them. Will keep you guys posted.

You'll love the '70. Mine's been great.
I replaced the (white) beading on my RR fender last summer when I was chasing some rust. Don't delve into that project unless you have nothing better to do with your time. Your painted beading looks fine. The paint-over probably helps seal it against water migrating between the fender and body anyway.
Have fun!

Thanks everyone for the comments. I started working on the doors today, had to cut it short to go to work though. More progress tomorrow, pictures will come as I take them.

Found some older pics of the bug before I did anything to it. Didn't know I had these, really shows what the back seat looks like prior to dying it.

Didn't have a chance to do anything today with the bug, probably won't have time tomorrow either. Monday should be a productive day though.

Sorry it took me so long to respond, work has been crazy lately. It's actually a factory VW color off a 2007 model, LY3D Tornado Red.
