I want to put Leds in all lighting in the Vanagon. I see pics of people adding in dome lights in their front and back of Westy's . How is this wired??. Also the overhead in the Kitchen area,I have seen others add a second light and run them in parallel. I just saw some lights like this in Lowes. Is this what people are doing? |

the light behind the stove on the shelf was 3 bulbs, then changed to a fluorescent bulb by 1986
no easily avail. LED conversion for the latter, only the early 3 bulb type _________________ 1986 2.1L Westy 2wd Auto Trans. |

Hi Littlejay,
As mentioned, this thread should get you started:
"Alpena Flex LED lights for interior van lighting"
I have gone to all LEDs for house lighting, and could not be happier. Use small gauge wire, like 16, and a small fuse, like 5 amps. The Alpena Flex lights are great, if you can manage the "cool" LED look. For reading and cooking I prefer the "warm" white LEDs from Oznium.com. Get the Alpena LEDs at Autozone.
I am running this:
- 1 set of the Alpenas (2 strips of 1 foot each) under the dash, ground wire connected to each front door switch, lights are always wired hot. Thus, the lights go on when door is opened. Center one LED strip over the glove box.
- 1 Oznium.com "Surface Mount LED Light Bar - Warm White", over the stove/sink.
- 1 Oznium.com "Surface Mount LED Light Bar - Warm White" over bench seat as a reading light

(Anyone wanna buy a pair of $50+ Go We$ty fluorescent lights?)

I am working on a redo of the over sink light in the next day or so, and will post photos in the Alpena light thread.
