|
|
As I was out today taking my new shocks for a test drive and running an errand for my wife, I happened on to this dish dry mat at Bed Bath & Beyond for $5. Since I'm the chief bottle washer, I've been looking for a simple solution that doesn't involve hauling around a drying rack. It also doubles as the sound dampner under the galley top.

Bought one of those myself a year ago, but in complimentary gray. Works quite well. _________________ ~Kamz

I am intrigued! Drying dishes and dampening sound would be lovely. Thank you for posting this.

I just set the dishes on the metal, this way the dripping water is funneled back into the sink. I thought that design was pretty smart. Something that absorbs the water defeats this, and all you end up with is a soggy mat. _________________ 1986 Vanagon Westfalia EJ25

The Westy dish drain is fine and dandy, but for me:
A) It blocks a portion of the sink making it annoying to wash plates and pots;
B) I spent hours polishing it and refuse to get water spots on it (yeah, I'm nuts );
C) The dish mat doesn't get any more soggy than your dish drying towel and dries in the same amount of time hanging on the pop-top bar;
D) Works great at shutting up the stove rattles.
But to each their own! _________________ ~Kamz

Yes I thought the water spots might bother some.
I try to be minimalistic, but I appreciate that others like to accessorize.
Do you put the mat between the burners and the dish drain? Or between the wood door and the dish drain? On my van there was a bumpon between the wood door and the dish drain, I'm not sure if it was stock or not. _________________ 1986 Vanagon Westfalia EJ25

Seems to work best in this location, rather than between dish drain and top. |

Missing in Canadian models. Look at the right side of the tray, by the sink, you will see an elongated hole or slot made for the water to run into the sink when you have wet dishes on top of the tray to dry. _________________ 1991 Westy auto w/ Peloquin TBD

Mine has those too... er, had them. I think it had 3 at one time, but it's down to one now (one fell off shortly after buying the van). _________________ ~Kamz
