Where chrome bumpers ever offered by VW as a factory option? I have a chrome front bumper on my 71 and a buddy has a chrome one on the back of his 77. Other than that, I don't think I've seen them on other buses. Just wondering if they were a dealer option. _________________ KK4NTP

Champagne Edition Buses came stock with chrome bumpers. I've never seen an early Bay with factory chrome bumpers. _________________ First Trip in the RustyBus:

He said he has a 71 my answer was only about Buses with those style bumpers. Champagne edition, of course, had different bumpers.

I realize that, but that wasn't the question he asked. He asked if Buses ever came from the factory with chrome bumpers, then mentions his '71 and a friend's '77, both of which have at least one chrome bumper. I'm sure he as well as the rest of us are aware that early and late Bays have different bumpers.

Yes I'm sure the learned scholars of The Samba are aware of that... I was simply stating my raison d'etre if you will.
Continue... please.

Here is a 71 I pass every day going to work (sorry about the crappy photo) that has both front/rear chrome bumpers:

Was at a pick n pull in Richmond ca last Friday. There is a 72 with a decent front chrome bumper. One of the steps had some heavy rust under the missing rubber grip but other than that it didn't look too shabby _________________ 69 Westy |

I got mine at a swap quite a while back for 15 bucks. Also a couple painted front bumpers for about the same price. The passenger end portion was crunched on the bottom. So still patiently waiting to find a good chrome end piece. Undoubtably someone somewhere has a torn up chrome bumper with the passenger end piece still in good shape. But havn't found that someone yet.
It's the rear bumper that usually gets crunched up. I have a painted one that would be nice with a bit of reshaping, gouge filling, and painting. But flaws or filling are no good for having it chromed. Someday I might consider the '72 bumper that Bus Depot advertises and redo the mounting holes and have it plated.

I think that is his 'car security system'. It's parked that way almost every day. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

That's what I was thinking. Not too bad.
