I used a standard 2 gauge plate from FLAPS and fabbed a rear box that mounts on the column via a hose clamp.
No holes in the dash for me.

I got the same type of pod, not sure if I like it around the column though I think I'll mount it somewhere else. _________________ http://www.vintagevwweddings.co.uk/contact.html |

I like the look of this
Does the laminate overlay the existing plastic that holds the speedo, etc or does it replace what's there?
If a vendor made this part, in black plastic, I would buy it!

Yes the Westy cabinet laminate overlays the existing black plastic. But the right hand 1/3 of the console was pretty much removed to get rid of the clock recess and clearance for the new gauges. I had looked all over to try to find some nice black laminate or formica. No sucess. _________________ 71 Superbug

Eight gauges, is that all!
Here are some from my phase 2 installation. I've yet to complete phase 3

Here's my gauge setup.
The CHT in the main cluster. and the three VDO's on an extension I made so their visible looking down under the steering wheel cross arm. I thought that the VDO's looked nice all together and the same size. The digital LED looked out of place with the black face gauges.
I figured with the CHT right out front that I wouldn't be as easy to take my eyes off of the road. After a while I hardly look down.

Jeff, you have enough gauges to require a passenger to read them all!
My wife would drive me nuts with her "Ohh, that isn't right!" with her looking at all the readouts. |

Has anyone mounted gauges on the top of the dash, just above the speedo cluster?
I've got a '78 Champagne, and am very reluctant to cut the dash face. Obviously I could use the holders on the underside of the dash, but I can see how they would be difficult to see. So I was wondering if there are any pods that could sit on the top of the dash. I'd be less reluctant to drill the top metal piece (because I don't think there is much special about it) for the wires to go through. |

I like this idea of using the space for the now-obsolete radio/music player for gauges. This precludes having to makes holes in the dash. We've all got little personal music machines now, anyway. _________________ John

We all have personal music machines? Speak for yourself.
They're not stock.

Has anyone got any picture of the wiring needed in the engine compartment after the gauges are installed? _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

Here's my setup using the Busboys adapter for the tach in the clock hole and oil press/time/voltmeter in the radio hole:
