my tires are 5.5 x 15,
i will go and measure the offset on all the wheels today,
maybee there is a differance in ET, i never realized.
also, JohnR posted they might be 914 wheels, are these in anyway special or rare?
i was just going to throw them away and buy the stock wheels with the chrome hubcaps. _________________ THE BUILD http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php

No, the Porsche 914 wheels are not special or rare, but are nice if you want to keep a stock late model appearance but fit wider modern tires. As for the offset you should find a tiny stamp in the face of the wheel like ETxx, as in ET40 or ET34. There is an example pic in the middle of that thread about the wheels.
Personally I prefer these [Lemmertz GT] Sport Wheels over the traditional stock/hubcaps on a late model Beetle. |

got back to measure the wheels,
they are all ET34.
do i need less or more ET to move the wheels outward?
i.e. would a spacer cause negative or positive ET
( a 10 mm spacer placed would make a ET24 or would it make a ET44 ) _________________ THE BUILD http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php

Adding spacers will obviously push the wheels out.
The ET34 wheels with 10mm spacers would be like ET24. The mounting surface is CLOSER to the centerline. _________________ AshMan40

I'm having a similar problem:
I bought a set of 15X4.5 sport wheels for my '78 vert, and I have 2 ET46's, one ET34 and one ET41. Now I don't know which are the ones that came on 914's, and which are the ones that actually came as "optional" on Bug convertibles so I can start searching for the correct ET size... |

I don't believe any 914's received 4.5" wheels...sounds like you have a mixture of ball-joint/1302/1303 stock wheels...the 'sport' Beetle also came with 5.5" wheels of similar styling. _________________ (3) '69's

Well, ya' might give Wolfsburg West a call, they know some pretty obscure stuff...they happen to sell reproduction Sport Beetle lug nut/axle nut caps. _________________ (3) '69's

Chris,
The stock sport wheels for your convertible are 4 1/2Jx15 ET41. The Porsche 914 came with 5 1/2Jx15 ET40. |

yesterday i was out and bought 5 stock wheels, the ones with the chrome hubcaps, i think they are 4Jx15 or 4.5JX15
they just clear my springs, problem solved!
now all i got to do is get them powder coated. _________________ THE BUILD http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php
