|
|
Is there any way to secure my van from theft and interior vandalism if I remove the front door handles (and the slider) for powder coating?
We have a lot of thievery around here and I need to secure it.
Thanks! _________________ 1986 2.1L Westy 2wd Auto Trans. |

recruit some local canines
but with the handles off any semi-VW knowledgeable person can push the lock tab to release..
maybe a 2nd set of handles to stand in while you're prettying up your OGs. _________________

i would suggest parking it in a locked garage until you got the handles back. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

Curiously.. why wouldnt you get to the yard.. get some handles to refinish.. and keep that from being a issue in the first place? |

Rope the doors shut from the inside. Climb out the rear hatch and lock it. |

Assuming you can still lock the rear for access and egress, perhaps there is some way to tie the doors together from the inside. For example, remove the inside panels and use heavy rope or cables looped through the door frames and tie them together across the inside of the vehicle. The slider might be a bit tricky but it just might work.

Wrap a huge chain around the whole van.
Make sure you run it through the spokes.

Merely removing the handles for paint...you can do that.. and lock the sucker from the inside.
Then exit the hatch, lock said hatch.
Issue resolved.
Hell, I went 2 years without handles on my MKII Gti.. no one wanted to stick their fingers in a unknown panel/hole.. |

ok, Thx
I'll fix the rear hatch lock first then
for some reason it now cannot be opened from outside -- the "new" open from inside latch I installed is the only way to get it open right now... _________________ 1986 2.1L Westy 2wd Auto Trans. |

They are going in for powder coating so they will be out for a few days at minimum. The front doors can be locked/unlocked and opened easily through the hole that is much more visible than a golf.
Getting a spare set of handles to use in the down time is a good idea as it will also keep out water as well as thieves. Rebuilding the handles once they come back can add a day or 2 to the mix depending on your schedule. You will have to spend time cleaning the PC out of the lock core holes, off of certain parts of the handle and out of the grub screw holes. |
