|
|
About 15 years ago (20?) I bought a rear disc brake kit for my street rail.
It uses the stock IRS stub axles that a 4-lug splined hub fits on. This hub
is what the disc rotor mounts on.
Much to my surprise, the splines in the ID of the 4-lug disc hub have
failed. They're completely stripped out. So now I need to find another
one to replace it somehow. I surely don't remember where I bought them
since it was so long ago. Also not sure if they are a factory VW part
(or Porsche) that was sourced to make this disc kit.
Does anyone have any idea if this might be a factory part?
Or where I might could find another?

Might be Type III rear hubs. They used a steel center hub with a drum that slipped on over it. Check with your local VW parts houses or junk yards for a match. _________________ www.LoCashRacing.org

Thanks for the pointer. I will see if that's what they are.
I sure hope so. |

Check for any numbers in HUB.....
I have seen two cases if this happening recently (also in another thread on this site) ... Both times people were able to contact a "seller" of aftermarket disk brake kits and were able to get replacement hubs..... Most likely its a "common" hub to all kits (or even stock vw) as they probably come from Brazil if older kits, newer kits maybe from China..
Common problem with stripping splines is at some point axle nut was probably not torques properly and this has been years in the making...

A good original type three hub is WAY better than the aftermarket hubs you get new. I had a couple that had the center literally break out while I was driving. They had a very grainy look to them. |
