|
|
I am not sure what the real difference in exhaust set up between 62' and 63.5'. My 65' had a running 1500 that needs to be rebuilt, but I would like to keep it on the road, so my plan is to install a 1200 that I have for the summer if possible. The engine is dated Feb. of 1962. My question is to whether any of the ancillaries from the 1500 will work on the 62'. I have a dog house for the 62 as well as an oil cooler, but is it possible to use exhaust and heater boxes from the 1500. If not, (because I am seeing a part change in most online catalogs) is it possible to run some sort of exhaust only set up until I can locate a decent used pair of heater boxes. Thanks for your help in advance. |

You can use the HEs if the 40 HP has been changed to fresh air, but can not use the wider 1500/1600 muffler. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Thanks Eric and Barb,
So let me get this straight, the HEs will work if a conversion has been done(how do I know this, 1200 was a bare engine), but the muffler needs to be for a pre 63'. If I only need to spend a hundred or so to get this to work that is good news. |

Pre'63 (actually after 15DEC62 so not quite halfway through 63 model year) would be stale air cooling and heating for the interior.
Here is an image of 40 HP stale air engine tin.
After 15DEC62 VW went with fresh air cooling and heating for interior. The big change in the muffler is the preheat bubbles on the muffler for the fresh air system.
Here is a 40 HP and later fresh air engine.
The type 1 used the 1200 engine up to 1965 here in the USA.
1966 model year the 1300 cc engine came out.
1967 model year the 1500 cc engine that was standard in the type 3 since 1961 and in the bus since 1963 in upright engine form was stock factory installed into the type 1. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
