May 18-19 2012 Chenango Valley State park, NY Southern tier.

It’s an unfortunate circumstance of dates & scheduling that Granny Grose’s annual VW campout & the Empire VW camping May dates coincide.

So some here will have a choice to make. But with limited weekends in May to choose from & Granny Grose moving later into May a conflict is unavoidable. (no one is hosting a group camping event on Mother’s day or Memorial Day)

Empire VW camping for May is the 18th & 19th in Chenango Valley State park
http://www.google.com/search?q=chenango+valley+state+park
Loop: PINE BLUFF
Sites #194 to 206 (the Waelder’s are booked on #200) these sites are electric (in case it’s seasonably chilly or wet)

Quote:
Chenango Valley State Park is an ice age wonder. Its two kettle lakes, Lily and Chenango, were created when the last glacier retreated and left behind huge chunks of buried ice which melted to form the lakes, and bog. Birdwatchers may glimpse woodpeckers, nut hatches, warblers and thrushes along woodland trails and herons, ducks and kingfishers lakeside. Fishermen will find trout, bass, perch and bullhead in Chenango Lake. Campers can choose from among 185 campsites and 24 cabins and golfers will appreciate the 18-hole Chenango Valley State Park Golf Course

Recommended travel route for classic VWs wishing to avoid the Southern NY interstate Hills..
Aka the scenic route.
Jamesville Exit #2 from I-481 on Jamesville road, Head to & past Jamesville beach county park
Continue on Apulia Road, Cross Route 20 in Lafayette(careful here) and continue south on Apulia road to Rt80
Right onto Rt80 thru Tully, NY to Rt281 next to I-81
Left onto Rt281 south. To Homer, NY where you’ll get on I-81 to bypass city of Cortland
Get on I-81 south in Homer for 2~3mi to Exit #10 (McGraw) and merge onto Rt11 south.
Continue on Rt11 south to Whitney Point, NY and cross River to Rt79 south to Chenango Forks and continue to North Fenton, NY
Right onto Rt 369 south to Chenango Valley State park.

Info for Granny Grose’s is below.. *Note it’s a new location (as well as later date)

Subject: Granny Grose's Buses Design & Random notes

Hello Volks! Here we are just 7 weeks away from Granny Grose's Buses 8! With this warm, early spring, the new campground should be in full bloom!

First and foremost for anyone that has missed it...THE CAMPOUT HAS MOVED due to growth at Shadybrook Campground. We wish Dave nothing but the best with the growth of his campground. We also plan to still hold the November PA Thanksgiving Campout at Shadybrook. But between our group needin a lil elbow space and Dave's success with his upgrades, the possibility of 75+ Buses at Shadybrook gets hectic. The new location is at Sunsational Family Campground with Irene and Ron. http://sunsationalfamilycampground.com/

GGB8 DESIGN IS DONE!! See attched picture. Shirt orders comin soon. THANK YOU to Adam Narraway for another stellar GGB design!

Some random info...

***ENJOY A BUS CAMPOUT BEFORE GAS IS $5 DURING PEAK CAMPIN SEASON!***

**No need for reservations. There will be room for those who like to gather with their friends or club. And there will be plenty room for those who may prefer a lil space and privacy. There is a 16 acre field attached to the campground. So if you have a big dog who likes to run...the field may be ideal. If you have a group of Buses and Bugs rollin in all weekend, the field would be nice for easy access and not rearrangin on a site. Just some ideas. It's nice to have the options this year. Of course the campground side will be the first to fill I imagine. There are roughly 20 sites for us to share on the campground side. So that means room for 20-80 Buses! haha!

**Breakfast Items...hit me up if you would like to offer somethin for the meal. I'll add you to the list on the website. We do ask that if you attend the breakfast, that you either pitch in food or pitch in help cookin/cleanin. This is a group effort and always seems to work out great with everyone pitchin in. Sadly we lost Granny's pavilion. That thing was stellar for our Saturday mornin gatherin. But there is a couple smaller pavilions to choose from at Sunsational. We'll decide as a group where we want to have breakfast and I will pass the word to all. Also, just a heads up to those bachelors who don't like to cook or bring food...Irene will be offerin food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She has a full kitchen in the one pavilion. So you can plan meals accordingly.

**Door Prizes...THANK YOU AGAIN to Taylor Grant at http://www.gowesty.com Go Westy! He always hooks us up with some schweet door prizes! http://www.gowesty.com We have always had success in gettin every Bus that attends a Door Prize. (of course every kid gets a kid prize) If you would like to bring or make a door prize to give away at the campout, please do. It is NOT a must do thing at all. If you can, great. If not, no big deal. We always have a couple overflow prizes to the next year.

**Fishing License...remember to get a PA license if you would like to fish in the creek. I believe the age starts at 17 yrs old for a paid license.

**There is a local grocery store(5 miles away) I will get a list of local stores that be handy while at the campout. I do know that there is NOT a local beer distributor. The same distributor is in driving distance. But I am sure it's further than before. So plan accordingly.

**Cost this year is $15 per Bus(2 adults and all kids) We have friends and family who like to attend. All are welcome. Price is $15 per Tent. (tents that come with paid Buses and Bugs not included) If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

**Bus Obsatcle Course!! Details are goin to be ironed out for this new event. Of course safety will be the first priority. With the 16 acre field, we will have plenty room for a obstacle course! Two person teams.(maybe more) Teams will take turns driving so that all can be blamed for the awful performance! Should be fun!

I am sure more will come to mind as the weeks wind closer. I will email again with the Tshirt pre order details soon.

Feel free to ask any questions or to pitch in any advice.

Lookin forward to another great Granny Grose's Buses!

THANKS!

Justin & Jess Baughman

**UPDATE ** Spring camping April 27 & 28th (North of Utica, NY)

OK We’ve heard from Town of Trenton that the Trenton Falls scenic area will be open on sat 4/28 & Sun 4/29
Phil has updated our website with info. http://www.empirevwcamping.org/empirevw/ with pics of our previous camping there.

Phil has contacted the West Canada Creek campground about us coming over in our VWs..
Rate will be $24/night per VW with water & electric. So you can plug in your space heater if it’s cold at night..

West Canada creek campground: http://www.westcanadacreekcampsites.com/
12275 State Route 28
Poland, NY 13431
Phone Local: 315-826-7390
Phone Toll Free: 1-888-461-2267

Even if you don’t come out to camp, consider a Day trip to hang with fellow VWs in the foothills of the ADKs.
And if you don’t know anything about the Trenton Falls site, here’s some web information.
It’s an open house twice a year in this property owned by the power utility but cherished by the town of Trenton.

Yes, somehow we lost a weekend in May! There has always been a weekend between Granny Grose's and Memorial Day. This year, we lost it. Granny's always is the weekend AFTER Mother's Day.

Maybe if I'm cruising in the various areas, I'll join up on a few meets! Will print out the schedules. Marked a few in my Calendar!
