I have a merged header exhaust and the headers don't clear the rear apron. The headers are from my bug. I'm looking for suggestions. I'm running a 1776 with dual 44's, no heaters. My dc is lowered. I'm looking at a vintage speed one but they mention an issue with Pre-60 buses. Mine is a60 model year, made in dec 59. Please post suggestions. _________________ "When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car." |

I just sold my vintagespeed and purchased an A1 sidewinder.......The reason was I wanted the option to switch from J tubes to heater boxes when needed. I have a 61 panel 1915cc. I like to look better now than the vintagespeed exhaust. |

You can do that with the vintage speed as well. I just removed my heater boxes and installed their stainless J-Tubes yesterday. The adapters work with either. _________________ 66 Riviera |

How much did that custom muffler set you back? _________________ "When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car." |

RINC, can you post some more pics? How's it sound in the high roof?
I'm looking to replace my A1 Sidewinder and go for a quieter exhaust. Was also going to put the heater boxes back on. VintageSpeed is probably in my future... |

I've suggested this one several times in the past.... I'd also recommend 'Flange-ing' the heater-box to 'header' connection... also the slider tubes can span a 40-horse, all the way up to a larger displacement.
And I just like the way it sounds too, not too loud... but still nice and throaty.

I will add again that I also use this muffler and love how it sounds. I'm thinking of wrapping my exhaust just to help with heat. _________________ 62 Standard Type 2 (Nothing Fancy)

Seriously, what are you guys running fir exhaust if you have an engine larger than a 1600 and you're lowered? SBS guys? I just want to get one that fits and works well. If it means spending 400, I guess I can do that but I prefer not to, my wife will not be pleased. _________________ "When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Funny, I'm planning on going from my A1 to Vintagespeed reason being is the ease of accessibility to the valve covers for adjustments, no need to remove the muffler like the A1. I'm running a 2027cc. |

I Highly recommend the vintage speed for the same reason as Rob and more!
allot more quiet great performance and quality is top notch.
I took off muffler that busryder is recommending it was ok i didn't like how the exhaust exited out the middle of bus then threw exhaust back on to my bus
so i welded an extension to it so it would go to end of my bus.
vintage speed is alittle pricey but well worth the price in my opinion.
oh i'm running a 1915 in my bus.

The valve adjustment part was a nice feature for the vintage speed one I thought as well. What one did you end up going with? the low profile or standard? _________________ "When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. This vintage speed one is a bit too low, thought it would offer some good ground clearance being similar to a stock exhaust.......
how wrong was i |

I'm running the Vintage Exhaust on my 1965 deluxe and LOVE it. Sounds great, easy it get to the valve covers, etc. I am running a 1955cc stroker motor and couldn't be happier.
On top of it all the customer service is exceptional. I had an issue when I first bought itat the classic a few years back. Mr. Lee was awesome at shipping me a new one right away. and even followed up to make sure everything was right.
Go with the Vintage Speed it is worth it!!!
Be Great! |
