Hello there,
I have problem in 1985 Wesfalia without aircon that my radiator fan run on hi speed and wont shut off. I am tired of disconnecting & reconnecting my battery terminal everytime I use the van & sometimes I have to remove the # 8 fuse just to stop. I tried to disconnect the thermo switch hoping that it was the problem, but I was wrong the fan still keep on running. What shall I do ? I need help, please, and thank you.

radiator fan relay is possibly stuck closed in the on position. try removing the fuse panel, there should be a relay panel up there. it could also be up and to the left behind the fuse/relay panel. try pulling the relays and seeing if the fan turns off. also check the red/blue wire coming out of the radiator fan switch for chafing or damage behind the protective boot etc. _________________ Reference Automotive: NW Washingtons Vanagon Specialist. Hello r.e.wing_fc3s,
Thank you for responding, I will try to check it tonight. I think you are right, maybe the relay is the culprit. Thanks again. |

Hi there,
Here is an update of what happened to my radtiator fan running on hi speed and won`t shut off. I followed what e.r.wing advice to pull the relay one by one but still the fan keep on running. I was almost get frustrated to fix this problem and I tried my last recourse to check the radiator fan wire connection. I pulled the wire connection & used a two wire jumper for the br. & the red wire and the fan starts.I jumpered the red/blk. wire but no power and then I did one more test on the previous one and I did not have power anymore. I checked it with my test light the wire connction & the fuse and it glows. I don`t know if I already fix the problem or what, because the fan already stop runnning even if I have my fuse & my battery hooked up. I will try to drive it tonight until the engine is hot & see if the fan will start kicking if not I don`t know how to fix this. |
