Go for it.....

It's not rocket science to do a turbo if you can fab stuff up.

I doubt the stock FI will allow you to adjust for more power.

A turbo will require a boost referenced fuel pressure regulator.
A fuel pump capable of 43 lbs pressure plus enough extra to keep that pressure plus what ever boost you want to run.

If you want 10 lbs. boost you will need 43 lbs of fuel pressure plus another 10 lbs of pressure for the boost for a total of 53 lbs of fuel pressure.

A boost retard setup for the ignition system.

I would say locking or limiting the distributor would not be good in a bus due the weight and getting good drivability.

Read this thread.

I saw this car and it has a Type 4 in it now with Megasquirt FI and ignition.

He just had a short ride in my turbo buggy and I am quite sure the turbo wheels are turning in his head ........ Laughing Laughing Cool Wink

You should be able to use everything except the computer on the Type 4.

The injectors might need to be upgraded to give more fuel on boost though.

for the turbo itself, would i run 4-2-1 headers of some sort, into the turbo to spool it up? i havent done any performance upgrade before. and i either start on this bus, a 78 fiat, or a 99 maxima v6...lol. i just like to explore the options, so its all in my dreams right now..

I don't think many use the 4-2-1 setup especially on a street engine. There are limits to what you can do depending where you put the turbo.

I would say it is best to keep the tubes as short as possible for exhaust heat retention but I can't say I have the experience on that.

My header on my buggy is home built from a sedan header to which I added the up pipe so my exhaust is pretty long.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

It still goes pretty darn good but someday I will build a purpose built header. I won't do anything fancy though.... I'll try to get the tubes to the turbine as clean and short as possible.
