Hi all,

I'm looking for tires for my '67 bus. She's bone stock and I would like some quality white walls. What is the latest, greatest solution for tires these days? The Michelins I've got on there are from circa 1994. Shocked

Thanks in advance!

Do you mean radials or bias plies?

There is a huge 14" radial tire thread on the site here
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=162278

For bias plies, CokerTire or one of their distributors maybe your only source.
Link to the correct size there

just went to the coker site. They only have them in 14"s? $198 dollars for a tire too, wow. Ive seen earlier buses than 1963 with white walls on them. Not sure where they got those.

whitewalltires.com and summitracing.com have good pricing and selection. Thick whitewalls radials are about as expensive as bus tires get.

Also check Lucas Tire in Long Beach, CA. Good selection, but the wide whites have gotten very pricey..

Thanks for the responses everyone, especially the link to the major tire thread. That is extremely helpful.

I realize now that I should have stipulated that I am looking for a white "stripe" tire as opposed to a (wide) white "wall" tire, like what VWs came with originally, and what I currently have on my van (passenger Michelins, eeek!)

My current setup:

Unfortunately, even with ALL of that information, and with the seemingly HUGE number of people trying to give their VW bus an original look, I cannot find a white stripe tire with the proper load rating for a bus.

One would think that there would be enough business around the world to manufacture one tire that fits that description! Just look at the action on this forum regarding tires. There's got to be money to be made out there. But I digress....

So I am faced with the decision either to get what I know is the proper spec tire, (i.e. Hankook RA08), or one that looks proper (several examples on this page: http://www.summitracing.com/search/Department/Whee...=Rank|Asc) and is "dangerous".

I'm looking at the Yokohama Y356 or Hankook RA08. Sad

Thanks so much for the responses!

Edit: Thanks to squareweave, who turned me on to Diamond Back tires, who will vulcanize a white wall or stripe on a modern blackwall tire to your specs......for a price. Shocked At least there is an option!
