Can I install 2002 Eurovan Seats into a 91 Westy Vanagon? And keep the swivel working (with the appropriate modification to the base of the seat)?
I've searched the forums for an appropriate date range, but haven't seen anything yet. |

I don't think that the late eurovans are appropriate donors. I have heard people in the past say that the rails changed and they couldn't do the swap.
Post a picture and maybe a definite yes or no can be made.
I did the mod in my van several years ago- http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3...ovan+seats |

Video of Eurovan seats in a Vanagon
I posted this video up on Youtube... one other place on the samba... made sense to include it to this thread.
Essentially 93 Eurovan seats installed in my 91 Westy/Syncro

Hey Sam Bateman:
I am 6'1" and like elbow room. Despite that, I find no issues with the Vanagon seats in one of my Westys ( a 1987 2WD). The swivel feature is fine, headroom is more than adequate (unless you like to look up high out the windsheild to watch birds), and I find no leg-to-steering wheel interference.
The Vanagon seats are WAY more comfortable than the Westy seats in my Syncro Westy. I would consider Vanagon seats an upgrade. _________________ '86 Syncro Westy SVX |

I'm with you Howesight, I consider my seats as an upgrade as well.
And I've pretty much gotten used to the slightly different mount/dismount procedure needed with the larger seats. The overall comfort is well worth the slight inconvenience.
I would not even be considering removing the driver's swivel if it weren't for finding room to fit a larger aux battery and Blue Seas relay.
But remove it I shall because I've got a big, honkin deep cycle battery that's gonna be made to fit in that compartment behind the driver's seat.

we remove the DS swivel from most of our campers in the family.
and a note is that for some shorter members of the family the lower height is an improvement.. on both enter/exit and pedal comfort..
plus you can resell your (3) swivel pieces for some extra $$ (or keep for the next owner) _________________

Well the deed is done. Performed the swivelectomy on my driver's seat this afternoon.
Used an extremely dangerous tool that was extremely effective. A die grinder with a 3" cut-off wheel.
Was able to cut the welds on one side completely and score the ones on the other and the plate just popped off with a couple of flexes.
Cleaned up the rails just a bit and trial-fitted the seat. Looked and felt so good I took it for a drive. Here are a few observations:
- getting in/out much easier for me
- sightline to the instruments much improved for me. I can now see the entire speedometer.
- better support for my lower legs due to the more horizontal position of my legs
- no more feeling of slouching to see out for me.
Overall, FOR ME, this is an improved seating position while retaining the extra comfort of the non-Westy seat.
One complete swivel for sale. Cheap.

The guy in the next block has a Eurovan and I learned this morning it's a '97. I asked to look at the front seats and saw that the rails are identical to the ones from the '93 that I put into our '87. Those of you looking for these seats have another data point for your search. |

A brief hijack as this post is likely to be read by those who are comtemplating ditching their old seats...
[hijack on]
I am looking to buy one or two decent front seats from an early Westy. The ones with this pattern & color scheme (blue stripe, not green):
Yeah, uncomfortable & butt ugly but they suit me nonetheless. Either drivers side or passenger side okay, usually the p/s seats are better.
I am aware of the Samba classifieds but have not had any success trying to buy from there on this & other items so I thought I'd put in a WTB request here too.
Thanks.
