I have done some searching in the data base and can't find the answer I need. We have just hauled in a 57 Panel and want to get it on its feet so we can roll it around easily. Somewhere in the past the drivers spring plate was torched in half. We have a 72 Bay parts bus ,I was planning to pull it and redrill to accept the swing arm trans. Any problems with this plan? Thanks in advance. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Bay springplates are not long enough to reach the RGBs. However, you could just add a piece of plate steel to span the gap so you could move it around. _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

also the outer splines on a bay torsion are larger than than the split. (odd side note) the inner splines on a bay torsion are the same as the outer of the split torsion. but ppl most likely already knew that. _________________ 1960 Bus Panel/Camper |

with og bus spring plates in the classifieds,
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/search.php?...ton=Search
are you really going to be ahead when you spend the time & effort to cobble something together out of bay parts?
the og parts are pretty stout, there might be a safety issue. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

I took the stub of the split and the Bay donor spring to my expert welder and he said no problem..again this is not a permanent fix just an emergency patch so the shell can become roller. It is outside and needs to get indoors for proper repairs. I will submit a pic for amusement/inspiration. Thanks for the spring plate links, we will get a good pair soon. This poor 57 shell has a long way to go..it was the one out of Texas for sale. Pic soon. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Got the "scabbed" spring plate back the Bay plate welded nicely to the Split stub we had left over. This will get the Bus on its feet and into the shop, I will take a pic in the am before we leave. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |
