I'm wondering if a product exists for storage that fits between the gear shifter and the plastic panel beneath the radio. Even when the van is in reverse, 1st, or 3rd, there is a couple inches of space between the shifter knob and plastic console, and as you get closer to the floor, that space increases. I'm imagining something that is as wide as the plastic console that runs from the floor to the base of the radio with a cup holder on each side and some pockets on two or three levels for things like cell phone, ipod, wallet, writing utensils, maps, sunglasses, change case, etc... if people are left to design their own, i'd be interested in seeing some photos... i'm guessing wood would be best??? i have seen the units on go westy between the two front seats but i like having that space open to move front to back w. ease.

Is that your console or did you find it on the web? If on the web what's the site? If it's yours do you have the plans or profiles or dimensions? I'd could build one of those from the picture but if I can avoid reinventing the wheel I'd like that even better!

I will probably get one of the big consoles like Gowesty sells, but I couldn't help but notice that Walmart sells the exact same item for half the price.

One of those homemade wood jobs around the shifter would be sweet as well.

That homemade wooden job may look nice, but it is going to be nasty in an accident.

I search here in the Vanagon Forum.

This is not mine. Search the forum here and you will find out who made this. I don't know. I just grabbed the pic.

the wooden console is cool and is a help as i picture this in my mind, i'm thinking of something more along the lines though of pockets or small 30 degree shelves like they have on a magazine rack (but small) -- with cup holders on either side... it's coming... i'm surprised there's not more of a selection at gowesty or elsewhere already out there
