So I did the 99 Passat Relay upgrade a few years back and have loved programing my intermittent wipers up until now. Over the last few days the rains returned and when I go on intermittent it only goes on slow and will start cutting out. Has the relay gone haywire? Anyone experienced this? Great upgrade while it worked. _________________ 1980 Vanagon Cali Import 86,000Miles

if it worked for two years and doesn't now, i would replace the relay. I know nothing about this mod, could you explain more or show a link?

Time to replace the relay. Guess it is corroded on the inside. It is a great mod. Just like replacing the stock size wiper with a 21 on the drivers side and a 19 on the passenger side. The little things that matter in the Pacific North West rain. _________________ 1980 Vanagon Cali Import 86,000Miles

Remove the plastic cover from relay and clean the internals...specifically the contacts.
Good luck,

Update:
Tried another 99 in there today and no go. Looks like the wiper motor is on its way out as after a while it looses the ability to take the pulse from the relay. _________________ 1980 Vanagon Cali Import 86,000Miles

Swapped the wiper motor and made no difference. Only thing left to do is to swap the switch stock. Anyone else go through this? Lost intermittent wipers?
(Tried two other relays and another wiper motor thus far) _________________ 1980 Vanagon Cali Import 86,000Miles

Check the fuses. Do a search, but I think it's fuse #10 and 17. Your symptoms aren't exactly like mine but it ended up being the fuse. _________________ "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." - Benjamin Franklin |

Fixed. Gumed up switch stock. Took my spare from my parts van, cleaned all the contacts and voila. Put the 99 relay back in and back in business just in time for the rain. _________________ 1980 Vanagon Cali Import 86,000Miles
