My oil pressure switch is leaking. I have tightened it but don't want to overdo it. I will tighten it and drive it for a bit, and then look at it and it seems it is backing itself out. How tight is too tight? Can I use lock tite or a thread sealant to keep it in. New switch?

The switch needs a good elecrical connection to the block via the threads. Thread sealant may "insulate" it.

Go buy a new copper crush washer and that should solve the issue. I always run Teflon tape on all mine and have no issues with connectivity.

There are two types of switches. 1/8 IPS and 10x1mm. The pipe threads are tapered and seal by being tightened and the 10x1 use a gasket. Don't go cracking your case by overtighten whatever you have.

Are you 100% positive it's leaking from the threads and NOT from the body of the switch???

I'm seen literally dozens of these leak between the plastic back and the metal housing.

No I'm not positive. Oil is coming out from somewhere on the switch. There is some oil on the wire where it plugs into the switch. So what's the fix for that? New switch?
