heater lever spot light?

On my 74 the heater lever spot light only has one wire going to it. The switch itself has 2 wire connections. Can anyone tell me what color wires are going to the spot light and where they come from? I have looked at the wiring diagram but could not figure it out. Thanks

I saw this called out on the wiring diagram last night and I was wondering where this light is supposed to be located. I can't remember ever seeing it..? The diagram I have shows that it is fed by a red and grey wire coming from the emergency flasher on post 58b. The other wire should be a brown wire (ground). Sometimes the bulb holder makes contact with the car's frame and therefore there is no brown wire, the contact completes the ground's end of the circuit.

I just tested post 58b on my emergency flasher. It has a resistor in line and kicks out a lower voltage. Maybe the bulb is a 6v for some reason?

MKH, the spotlight is intended to illuminate the handbrake/heater lever area when operating the vehicle in the dark. The logic being that if it is dark enough to turn on the light switch, even for the parking lamps (first light switch position), then the spotlight should stay on.

My guess is the single wire for the spotlight goes to the fusebox area. It would either tap into a wire for any of the running lamps using a Y adapter (fusebox for '74 shown here)-

or go to the light switch on the dash using a double terminal at the switch.

The wiring diagrams all changed format in '73 to the "current tracks", and I never learned how to read them. Here's the one for a '72, but that year did not yet have the spotlight.

Actually, I found it- and my second guess is correct. Here is the current track wiring diagram for the '74. The spotlight is on track 56, with its single wire going to terminal 58b on the light switch using a white/silver with red stripe thin wire:

What "switch" are you referring to- the interior light actuating switch in the door jamb? If so, that would have nothing to do with the spotlight.

Rome, Wow thanks for the great information. I should not have used the term "switch" I was actually refering to the spotlight itself. My spot light is missing but there is one brown wire hanging in the hole in the bracket. I have since purchased a spotlight and it has 2 male connection points. This is why i thought 2 wires went to the spotlight. Maybe the spotlight I purchased is wrong? Thanks for the help and the wiring diagrams for the 74 are all but impossible for me to read. Mike

Reviving this old thread as I'm looking to get my Lever Spot light - AKA Lever Illumination light- working again.
I'm looking for a picture of what a mint-condition setup is. I've got mine working but its not clear how the bracket, socket, gasket and light all fit together.
Much appreciated.
