I see a weird "loop" going on here. I just bought that top you posted and I posted a link to the car you just bought.

Early 181 drums are difficult to find. They sell for 100 EUR when you can find .

Heres a thought. Is a IRS thing drum the same as the early minus the snoat length? Can it be used with a spacer? _________________ Why buy what you can build.

Nice man!
I went and looked at that one. I actually picked up the phone the day after to call and tell the guy I would offer his full asking price (I originally offered less), but put the phone down half way through dialing the number.
You got a good deal. Even with the little goblins it has, it's still in great shape for this area. _________________ Type 1 - '68, '74

I passed on an NOS one at bug out for $25 (kicking myself).
I would rather have the 12mm lugs but in all reality it does not matter.
Yeah Corey you said it. Its rare and nothing rough like the other VWs I have dealt and am dealing with. However it is the most I have ever paid for any VW out of some 30 VWs I have had. I hope to have it on the road in a month or so. _________________ Why buy what you can build.

Nice! Mean looking; I like 'em.
Sorry if this has been covered before, but what is that "bump" sticking out inside the wheel well in front of the tire? I don't seem to recall ever noticing that on my '73. _________________ JohnD

I am pretty sure 73s had that bump. Its the inner structure that commonly rusts out. _________________ Why buy what you can build.

Looks like a space in the interior to rest the rifle or something else. |

I just had a look of my 1977 Thing and it also has that bump. There isn't a space inte interior. |

My inital thoughts of getting it on the road with in a month was a pipe dream. This car had way more issues than I imagined. Here is the thread with more details. It is not a restoration but it is major surgery.
