Wonder how uptodate that previous/original list is? Do people ever remove themselves from the list? _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

Not VW-centric, but a site was recently started where people who like to boondock in RVs can find a place to stay in exchange for offering a boondocking spot of their own: http://www.boondockerswelcome.com/home
Currently you would be a "founding member" and there is no charge to join. _________________ 1989 16" Syncro Joker hightop "Akela" |

Not to stray away but we found another way to find a spot to overnight on the road.
We would use the $ we saved by not getting a campsite for a good meal out to end the night.
We would not go to any chain restaurants.
When we were done with the meal we told the waitress that we were on a week tour with the van and asked if there were any "must see" attractions in the area.
Then we would ask if the owner would mind if we would park in the back of the parking lot to sleep for the night and would leave in the morning to the next location.
This was or first trip that we were on "tour".
I never realized how different it would be, camping vs touring. I guess that is a subject for a new post.

If some crazy member ship his van to Europe (France), I offer a shaded driveaway in the Alps, five miles from a big lake, 30 miles from ski resort.
Edit Sept. 7, 2013: No shade, the big fir tree is down.
Nobody will make the difference, I can sleep on my two ears. |

jrobe, I've done that route plus casinos, it's okay for sure and fine for one nighters. Even fast food places too plus they tend to have wi-fi. Also hotel parking lots, I've even BBQed in the back lot _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

That boondocking site is exactly where I wanted this post to go, but with VW's. But we have a common interest with them also.
Signed up!!!! _________________ --------------------------------------------------------

On the MA/RI border on the coast, approx 1 to 1 1/2 hr south of Boston. Private driveway, well off the street. 300 acres of conservation land with walking trails next door. Have friendly dogs. Any pets you bring must coexist with our dogs, free roaming chickens and goats.
Nearby salt water rivers for canoeing/kayaking. You can borrow boats. Beach 5 miles away. Good stop before going to Cape Cod.
There is also a state campground on the ocean which you may prefer instead, but let me know and I will bike down to visit you! _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"

I would like to offer 2 spots for camping.
The first spot is primitive but very nice with fantastic views, setback from the road on a hilltop.
If you need elec. and water you are welcome to park at my house about 1/10 of a mile from the other spot.
We are located right on the NY/VT border midway between Saratoga Springs, NY and Manchester, VT.
PM me for arrangements. _________________ 1982 Westfalia 1.6NA diesel. Converted to Turbo 1.6 and sold.

Good on the people who can offer a safe sleep spot! Man, I miss being able to offer our off-street spot next to the garage with a plugin. At the time we were off the river road about mid-ways between both downtowns but it was so quiet one might not be able to tell it was urban camping. It was a perfect spot for westys and our own van even served as a "guest house" back there complete with electricity and a stocked fridge. It was easy and low-hassle.
Now we live downtown in a secured building (can't even buzz anyone up, guests are accompanied) and a one room space. Sleeping in your car nearby is a great way to get woken up by the barfolks, questioned by the finest (at best) or a pat down and move-along (at middlin) or worse.
But if you happen to show up in the Twin Cities (St. Paul/Minneapolis Minn.) we can connect you with people we trust for parts, lunch, or just plain information. If you're around during a weekday and interested in radio broadcasting I'll arrange a tour of the station. PM for details. _________________ Julia

Have a small house with driveway space in a quiet neighborhood.
Have electric hookup and water available. If we are home then you will be more than welcome to use the facilities as well. Also have a fair amount of tools, although I am sure some carry more tools and parts with them in their van than I own Also have a few very reliable mechanics and parts suppliers near by.
Just a few miles from Historic Downtown Annapolis.
Also have family on the Eastern Shore of MD, closer to the coast and Ocean City. Large amount of farm land that can be camped on.
Also be more than happy to give suggestions for other parts of Maryland.

Got 25 acres at the end of a gavel road and surrounded by much larger tracts. Very private. Can put you away from the house if you want your privacy, or you can stay closer and hook up to some electricity for a bit.
Roughly 20 minutes East from the Rt211 entrance onto Skyline Drive.
Yep, free roaming dogs, cats, and chickens, so if you got a curious dog, it has to be leashed.
Got a couple of free roaming kids too that always enjoy a new friend to play with. |

Might I suggest we assemble the list into one post somewhere and keep updating that post so there's no need to troll through 105 pages of thread (hopefully it grows!) to find locations?
I'll offer up a spot at two places--one in Mankato MN that's typical suburbia but all the facilities. The other 30 miles east in Waterville MN--In town, but on a lake with a sand beach. Has no internet or washer/dryer, but everything else. _________________ 1980 Full Camper, been in the family since it was brand new!
