|
|
Hi-ya,
I have been trying to fix my tachometer for a little while and have tracked it down to the board. I cannot seem to find any data about what some of the pieces are. This is probably slow pitch softball for someone out there, but I not finding much info out there. So back of the tach board there is a zender voltage regulator. I need to know which one to buy and replace mine. It is the little piece number 9 that connects 23 to 24 it says bzx 55c, when googled it floods me with too much data. Anyone have a beat on this? Voltage in/ voltage out or a part number?
Cheers

Not an expert on the tachs, but what is the problem with yours?
The most common fault in electronicly driven tachs is that the capacitors age and fail. They'd probably be the first thing to change. _________________ '88 VW Westfalia

Its been a while since my last electronics design course, but I will take a stab at your issue. I think you mean a zener regulator? There should be a voltage value on the part itself. Usually between 5-20v. These are a type of diode often used to supres transient voltage spikes.
Jet-ski ECUs have a similar protection built in to surpress voltage spikes from various components. I have replaced a couple due to improper jump starting. You can normally tell they have failed if they appear to be burned or the board overheated near the solder joints.
If you can de-solder the part from your tach and post a picture we could probably help more.
I agree with the previous poster that the electrolytic capacitors are the most common failure point. They sometimes fail obviously with the tops bulging or leaking. These capacitors can be easily had from a number of on-line vendors. _________________ 2004 Dodge/Mercedes Sprinter (Custom Camper)
