When we're camping, the big cooler, the stove on its fold-up stand and the camping box live outside, under either the awning or the easy up.
The Rubbermaid 'food boxes' live in the space behind the rear seat, where they are perfectly accessible for meal prep.
The double bass stands up between the front seats with the neck bungeed to the pop-top latch.
The guitars and our clothing bags go on the folded upper berth with the duvet and the pillows.
Our day packs go on the driver and passenger foot wells, and the mandolin goes on the driver's seat.
This way there's room for anything in the main body of the van: indoor meals with the table up, sleeping with the bed down and the Rubbermaids under the underneath, rainy night bluegrass jamming with banjo, mandolin, guitar and double bass all cozy inside!

| We have installed a Burley 2"receiver hitch and have a Rola carrier. You can move a lot of stuff from the inside to the carrier that way. We like it. |

Did the same, my carrier is a WalMart one, but can't find anything wrong. Gor a carrier 'bag' at HF. Carry 3 totes, 5 gal water jug and EZY Awning inside.

Here is the trailer I just bought a couple weeks ago...
on the scale it weighed about 260lbs...perfect place to keep stuff out
of the Westy. Its also water tight and lockable.

A front child's cot is a great way to add a bed or, as in our case, store items at night. I did this a lot with the splitty westy, and now have a Gary Lee cot ready to go in the Vanagon.

I thought the same thing when I had first seen it ,"adorable"
It's very similar to what I was going to build from a small trailer base from
Harbor Freight. This has a well made frame and sturdy box riding on
little leaf springs. I need to find out more about the hubs and
bearings so I can locate some spare parts to keep on board. It will be
nice to be able to store/lock all out stuff up in one place. We used to
set up a little tent everywhere to put all out stuff in. We're
going to experiment this week to see how we want to pack it.
I am also eventually going to color match it to my Westy and
install one of those solar vents with a fan on it. Plus I plan
to mount a set of Thule racks on top for the bikes.
It's always been owned by a VW bus driver. The previous
owner hauled it around with a hi-top split window selling
sheet metal out of it. One of better purchases that for sure.

Thanks and sorry the page is so ancient but there is not much interesting to say.
It has a new canvas, zipper, Espar, solar panel mounts, fresh long block and 911 SC transaxle but other than that it's just 13 years older and ~130K miles further down the road from when I made it.
Oh, and now that Justin at Greaseworks tuned up the computer the TDI gets over 28 mpg at 65 mph on BioDiesel. 1500 miles on a tank was sure nice on the 3100 mile loop I made through Tucson and Death Valley in April.
