Lucky dog!
Great score.
Wish I could find 2 at a time and those 2 especially.
Panels are the bomb and DDs are nuclear. Twisted Evil

Hello All,

I have been poking, prodding and cleaning my new treasures.
Yesterday I found the ignition key buried in trash in the ashtray. Today, when I turned off the shop vac I hear a clunk, looked down and found a bullet!

Limited time to work on them right now, I'm making a leather coat for a customer. It has been 15 years since I have made one! It is taking longer than I thought.

Ain't it fun!!
David

After removing several engines, tranny's and various parts the floors look pretty good.

The cargo floor looks ok but is the cab floor that good? Neutral
Looks rusty to me.
Or is it only surface rust?

Hello Folk,

I'm still here, and still working on the 58 dd panel. The 62 bus was purchased by David and will be saved!! Mark and I went to the Volksaween swap had a great time selling and giving stuff away. Was great to see old friends and make some new. I have acquired a frame from Kevin, thanks Kev, It is all fitted and ready to weld into place. Things are progressing well I have a 36 horse motor lined up, just waiting for the transmission to arrive. This baby will run again!

Oh yeah, Andy the front floor has rust thru and repairs, but we expect that in this part of the country.

Onward, thru the fog.
David

Hello all,

Here it is a year later...

Had great weather here till today, it was so warm new years eve, we sat outside roasting dogs, marshmallows and drinking champagne.

I have made some progress at the garage! The frame is welded in place, huzzah!

Here is the proof.

Happy New Year
David

Here a few shots of the joinery and my 36 hp dupont overhaul.
Hoping to get a transmission and to see it roll!

Also a shot of the spliced shifter rod tube.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but I hope that those welds in the pic are the last of several passes. That seam should be one continuous bead from top to bottom. I assume you used a MIG, but did you use a 220v/170A or better? It's your bus and you will have to live with the results, but remember that there is a reason the factory doesn't have a weld in that portion of the frame. The leverage from the suspension is significant.

Hey Cru62,

Damn it's getting wet in here. Not sure what you are seeing, but I was watching the metal melt and feel confident that I have good welds.

220v, also extra piece of 14 gauge (L) inside the box with spot welds

Time will tell...

Today was a big day!
We had a lovely day, above 60 degrees!
I spent it putting the transmission in the 58 dd panel!
My precious is on all 4 wheels now, the first time in 30 years I would guess.
Should be rolling under it's own power about May. Look for us by the side of the road.

Peace, grease, love and goodwill

Nice work David. I am definately interested in seeing your progress. May is a strong deadline, hope you make it.

We had great weather here this weekend and I did the exact same thing getting one on all 4 wheels for the firts time since 82.

Hello All,

Not much progress on my Precious...

May deadline came and went as I bought a new garage and have been busily moving. Oh yeah, we have a new band, Boonslick Groove, three singer songwriters and Donnie Lee on drums. New deadline is October. Pretty exciting I now have a lift and a riverfront view of the mighty Missouri river.

The dd panel has been on the backburner till last week and now I am progressing forward. The old bus did roll to the new garage on all fours via my towbar!

Cleaning/painting the underside and replacing all brake components. Small progress daily. It is so much easier working with a lift.

Thankfully Yours
David

Hello All,

And the toilet has a view of the Big Muddy when the garage door is open.

Big day today, my precious now has brakes! New lines, hoses, cylinders, brake shoes and cables.

It can stop now. Going to have the engine in and running soon...

What was I thinking when I started this project.
