|
|
i have a VW Bug License plate light/back-up light combo unit. I t fits on my 1961 Bug dek lid in place of the stock license light. It is wide, more like the later Bug lisence lights found on a 1965, but it is taller, with two lense's on it for back up lights. I believe it is a european acessory. I got it decades ago at a swap meet.
any idea on what this is? who made them? etc...
thanks |

Sounds like one of these. Made by Jokon. Very cool.

How hard are the Jokon brake/reverse set ups to find?
Along with the aforementioned style, (post above) Jokon also produced the styles bellow and from what I gather these Jokon light set ups where recently reproduced in very small numbers in the US. However they have proved difficult to track down - See bellow:
These styles range from 58-64, 65+ and type3
I have seen several of the fully inclosed style (post above) for sale in the last couple of months. However I haven't seen any of the 65+ style for sale at all (OG or Repro) - are these rarer then the others? (see bellow)
When fitted:

Great looking car! Was that NOS?
You seem to have the original gasket as well!
Do you think the one I mentioned before/above are rare?
Because I'm having no luck tracking them down |

The magazine article is wrong.
They were not made by Jokon.
They were made by Gabel !
Here is a photo of the side of the box of my nos example.

Yes, I have 3 NOS examples. The light actually comes with 2 different gaskets. 1 for a 1958-63 beetle, the other for 1964-67 Beetles.
My NOS lights come in a Brown Jokon box, not a colorful box as shown above by Gable. I'll post pics in a few days _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

Where does the box say Jokon ?
The exact same instructions were included in my Gabel light. _________________ The problem with reality is that there's no background music !

I can't find any text referring to Jokon as the manufacturer. I believe there was an article on this accessory in a past VolksWorld magazine issue that stated these lights were manufactured by Jokon. But it's possible their information was incorrect just as the German publication shown above described it as Jokon as well.
Does your Gable box look anything like the box mine came in? Corrugated cardboard? Perhaps the colorful label was removed on my example _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

The upcoming Classic? As in June 8th, 2014? You're in San Ysidro? Im in San Diego & have a few more NOS examples available, but they aren't cheap.

you could find red led lights for those, either set and make a nice 3rd brake light out of it. _________________ 68 bug, 1500 single port
