|
|
Lots of choices with our vendors.
Has anyone found the ultimate VW front carpet floor mats?
I've looked at all the vendors, searched thesamba classifieds, and searched the forum. Have a recommendation? Thanks.

What about the below who have, for decades, made a superior custom mat:
http://www.lloydmats.com
Or, how about the classic of floor mats at:
http://www.cocomats.com
More than just one kind of floor mat, ya know? _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

My experience with lloyds has not been great. The products that I have from them are sub par so I would expect the same quality from their carpets. _________________ 1984 Vanagon Westfalia Syncro Hightop

Coco mats is sending me a template for the driver and passenger mats, to make sure they fit properly. I also plan on making a template for the mat between the seats.
I have Coco mats in my Porsche 356 replica and like them a lot.

My experience with Lloyds has been quite the opposite. I've had three different sets from them and was pleased with their fitment. Personally I'm a big fan of rubber overlay mats. Living in the county and having kids and animals carpet mats don't hold up. |

Overall I am OK with my Lloyd mats.. For practical use, I'd give them a 8 out 10 for the front set.
However, if the little details are important to you, don't be too disspppointed to see that the cuts may not be even and that the dot pattern may not line up the cuts. (or maybe my set was cut by a guy who was hungover or something )
I have found that the large mat for the cargo area is great for winter use.. but is not very comfortable for camping... its hard on the knees and a little rough on bare feet. I prefer my marine carpeting in the cargo or "living" area for summer camping use. _________________ -89 GL Westy, SVX.. finally.

This is one of the issues with mine. Also mine still smells like a chemical factory even though I have had them for 8 months. Especially bad when it is sunny. Not exactly what I would call the best or high quality work. I just pulled mine and am replacing with OEM rubber. I think we are getting off track because the op was asking about carpet not rubber. I just mentioned thine rubber mats as an example of Lloyd's quality that I have experienced. There are several threads regarding the rubber mats. _________________ 1984 Vanagon Westfalia Syncro Hightop

I have lloyd's carpet mats in my 2wd and they are very nice and they make the interior much more plush under bare feet.
For utility the syncro got rubber mats over the stock rubber interior to keep the wear on it down and they do that job nicely. |

I used to have black front carpets, but I replaced the carpets with these:
http://www.van-cafe.com/home/van/page_484_569/german_vanagon_rubber_floor_mats.html
Huge improvement! These are durable, they collect water, mud, and dirt, and they can be easily hosed off. In comparison, the front carpets quickly get dirty and worn out. _________________ 1990 GL 7-passenger

Home made cut from some low pyle carpet I traced the pattern of some oem rubber ones so they fit real nice....I used a heat gun to cauterize the edges to eliminate fraying... _________________ 91 CARAT |

Yup, those are the mats that both of my syncros have.
The 2wd's plush mats are much more relaxing though.

I know you asked for carpet floor mats, but if you go with rubber or plastic http://www.weathertech.com/
is the place to go!!! _________________ 1968 Squareback

I wish Weathertech would make some for the Vanagon, but I don't think the 20 sets a year they could sell would justify the tooling.
I've got them in my truck and they are awesome. I'm not very nice to my truck and they are holding up great and the carpet is still show room new.
My OEM german mats for my van have been good too. THey look good and work well. |

YAh weathertech mats rule. I have them in my Caravan, amazing for winter. The snow melts and the water drains out the door. I hose them down once a year, look brand new. I would have bought them for the westy. Got the Gowesty rubber. Really happy with them as an alternative. _________________ 1989 Vanagon GL Westfalia - 2.1L waterboxer |

I went with lloyd mats from gowesty.com (dropped shipped straight from lloyd) which cover front, passenger, and aisle. I snagged 'em during their last sale. I am happy with them. No slipping. Good protection. I went with black against my light brown interior and I think they look pretty bitchin.
