I had upper control arm bushings and inner tie rod ends replaced. The front end was immediately affected with out of balance tire symptoms; wheel shaking badly. I also redid front brakes including wheel bearings. I have newer tires and immediately before the work it was smooth and only a hint of tire out of balancing ~65 mph, but not enough to bother with.

After it was terrible and did not want to go over 40 mph with the the shaking. I had the tires rebalanced, one was out 1/2 ounce they was not much and it was better but not acceptable. Took it in 2 more times and they said they were zeroed out but redid one/rotated another and finally it is mostly gone.

I'm just wondering if the looseness of the bushings before was making the ride seem smoother, or if there is something that I need to look at. I have not checked to see if the wheel bearing nuts are still sufficiently tight but was thinking of that. Any ideas. Thanks

I would double check your work.
You have replaced a few items that could easily hamper the driveability if not install per spec.

Try a different set of wheels and tire all together if your work checks out.

Were the bearings/bushings pressed in or hammer whacked?

In addition to what Dylan suggested, I have seen a number of 2wd Vanagons that are incredibly sensitive to front wheel bearing tightness. Unless the bearing assembly is tightened perfectly, there would be a front end vibration. On these vans, correcting the wheel bearings fixed the issue.

What wheels are you running?

hammer whacked but catefully using rear axle nut socket and a 2x4 for protection. these were done on different weekends though and only the bushings affected it unless the wheel bearings loosened up, which is why I mentioned them. maybe I did bugger them though by not having them pressed in.

I guess the first thing I'll do is check how right the front axle nuts are. thx
