I was driving the other day and came across a camoed out thing with stock 4-lug wheels. Now I don't know too much about things but I know they came with wide 5 lugs. Did late model German things come with 4-lugs or ??

The thing probably had wheel adapters on it, or the owner changed the hubs over.

The 5 lug pattern was standard for the US. But many change to 4 lug for wheel and braking options, including kg wheels and brake kits.

From his own personal experience Richard has spoken correctly. It is a plug and play installation to put Karmann Ghia 67 - 74 front disk brakes on a Thing. The rotors have a 4 x 130 pattern. Then you simply down grade your rear brakes by putting any of the endless Bug/Ghia blah blah blah rear drums on the rear and you would have a Thing with a front wheel disk brake system and a four whell 4 x 130 wheel pattern and the world is open to you for endless options for easy to find, cheap to buy wheels and tires. In fact, I currently have a set of just those those exact rotor for sale on this site. Only a complete bonehead wou;d use sheel adapters for this kind of an application. T-2 buses and Things had 14" wheels as a matter of simple math. Smaller diameter wheels give you more power off the line and less top end. On the other hand. 15" wheels give you instant raised ground clearance and more top speed. The other advantage in the 21st century is that 14" tires are becoming less than easy to get your hands on for a nice price. And so it goes. K-mann
