the bow's float in the groves... that way you can adjust them as you pull the headliner into place.
pull everything tight as you work from one end to the other, working the bows to make sure the headliner looks tight and pretty. |

Get the Jbugs DVD. I watched it like 10 times, now I know it like the back of my hand. I installed my headliner in 3 hours without any helpers. _________________ -Austin

The cardboard (which really should be called chipboard - like the stuff shoeboxes are made from) is used above the door, where the liner tucks in. Glue 1" strips of chipboard to the metal (not covering the opening). This way you can glue the liner to the chipboard and tuck in the overage later. _________________ Silence is golden...unless the dumb question you should have asked lands you in the emergency room. |

Right above the doors, there are "grippers" that the headliner folds over and into. The headliner needs to be pulled straight out, glued down, then cut to length and folded into the crevice under the grippers, and then the grippers need to be hammered down, all basically in one step. All the while maintaining a taught surface with no wrinkles. To make it a helluva lot easier, glue a 1"x18?" piece of thin carboard along the grippers and let the glue set. Then cover the cardboard with contact cement. Then paint the vinyl that will be touching the cardboard with contact cement. Let the contact cement set up for maybe 5 minutes. Then pull on the vinyl to get rid of the wrinkles and then press it against the cardboard. Make sure it sticks REALLY good. Then cut the vinyl so about a 3-4cm flap overhangs over the grippers. Take a plastic putty knife or spatula and use it to press the flap into the little crevice under the grippers. To finish, take a rubber mallet (wrapped in a cloth to prevent scuffing) and hammer the grippers shut. And you're just about done. _________________ -Austin
