It depends on what parts you want. some are better than others when it comes to engine and brake parts. _________________ Glenn

given your name "55ovalgeek". Oval parts Wolfsburg west. 36 engine parts wolfsburg west and air cooled research (aka as TS member Mr Motorhead) are 2 that immediately come to mind and there are a few others for oval & 36 hp parts. Sometimes you have to buy used/reconditioned and often times you can find them right here on TS, but really bug? bus? splitty or bay? AC or WC? Like Glenn said, it really depends on your ride and what specifically you are looking for. |

Both of the parts yards I know of in the area are gone due to either retirement, environmental enforcement or local whiner/do gooder pressure. There were a pair of old timers (and I mean OLD 75+ & 80 something) in York, PA that refurbed cars for resale on Rt 30 (I went to check an early 60s cabrio) and in talking to the "younger" one sounded like they had a stash someplace, but that was 6 years ago. You might check TS advertiser VWJoe who is in Severna Park, he on ocassion has older parts for sale. Frankly, just my opinion you're looking for relatively specialized parts and I'd just go with who I mentioned in my previous post along with specialists like Glenn (bought some dizzy supplies from him way back). I think about 90% of the parts I've picked up are from WW or the west coast. There just aren't that many ovals sitting around the EC anymore, if they are likely just canniblized shells. But if you find one, nice. Maybe the midwest TX/OK people can chime in. If you are traveling by land, my suggestion find it here and pick it up on the way. |
