I'm planning on repainting it back to Olive Drab. I've been doing some research on Danish military vehicle insignia, which I plan on also painting on the bus.

The highroof is running and driving right now, but I think I'll pull the 1500 and take my time on a tip-top resto of the motor, meanwhile driving the bus with the brand new 1600 dp I have in my westy right now.

I'm sure I'll have a few mechanical issues to deal with. There's not a lot of welding that needs to be done, but the bus could use a small patch on the front passenger's floor, and a little work on the cargo doors. I may farm this work out, not sure yet. Either way, I'll probably rust-bullet the underside at some point.

I have a gas heater that I may put in the bus.

I have a '70 westy interior in storage right now. I'll probably put the z-bed in the highroof, and possibly some of the cabinets, maybe not. It would be cool to rebuild the closet to go all the way up. Very Happy

I've got a roof rack I intend to run. Anyone know if you have to bend the legs to fit on a highroof, or if the rack will go right on? It seems to me like the drip rails might be closer together (narrower roof?)

Perhaps front and rear safaris at some point down the road...
I'm not planning on lowering this bus...I think I'd prefer the rugged high-ground clearance, military look.

Can you tell I'm excited to get this bus? Twisted Evil

I have always thought a camper kit in a high roof would make a awsome set up.

That's exactly what I was thinking. A cool setup of two "early bay" westfalia poptop "beds" mounted on each side to aquire two extra fold out beds. Imagine having that extra westfalia shelf in back under that high roof, it'd be great!

I think you should just put a camo green cot/hammock in the back. Keep that cavernous interior kinda bare to go with the military look. Putting it back to its og color is a great idea since its an unusual color.
Btw was that bus for sale on this site? I seem to remember seeing it. Highroof are just so bizarre!
What color will the rack be?

that's the plan. hochdach should be arriving Feb 10...unless there's some major snag, I don't see why I couldn't make it to EB.

Yeah, the two-tone white and tan scheme is pretty weak. That shit has got to go ASAP. I'm talking about green rims and hubcaps. hell yeah.

Yeah this bus came from the thesamba classifieds. I've been watching for the right highroof for about a year....this bus came up right about the same time as my x-mas bonus, so I couldn't pass it up Cool

My rack is a 4 foot original silver vw rack.

Man, talk about some serious height clearance issues! You'll need an airplane ladder to get to the top of that! Razz

this further proves my theory that alot of mediocre buses are heading east across the atlantic. a few very cool buses are heading west across the atlantic.

word is a 58 westfalia hit port hueneme on sunday and is waiting extradition to it's new home in DENA.

yeah, I heard about that one. in fact I was on the phone a good bit of the morning trying to help with the paperwork issues on the bus.

we will happily send ten normal buses over for every one special bus that comes back.

also, highroof drip rails are the same width as lowroof drip rails.

Looking good!
Do the ODG for SURE.
LOVE HRs like most folks here,
Trippiest thing...
Was at a show here in Vallejo (NorCal) a few years back, and my amigo, Mark Waterman had his trusty ('64 I believe) HR he always tools when not pimpin' his '52 SC...
TWO others showed up.
HUH?!!! The main, really clean one was a kid who said he had TWO others for sale....
Just a random show...the ones here have really fallen off over the years...and I wasn't expecting much...just on the hunt for my Hehr windows I NEVER found....
BLAM! THREE highroofs, and leads on three or four more for sale at that particular time....
DAAAMN!
