Guys, do I have to take my engine out to remove the body off the frame? Friend of mine said we should be able to take body off my 69 with engine still attached, but that just doesn't seem possible.

Help

The engine is attached to the pan not the body. The Electrical IS atached to the body. Smile

So I need to disconnect the electrical components that are attached to motor then I can remove body without taking the motor out?

Also remember to detach any cables that run from body to
engine or body to chassis.

I just did what you are about to tackle this just this past weekend. Three guys and off she went to the stands in the garage. I am prepping the engine and luggage compartments for paint. easier to tackle with the body removed.

doesn't sound to hard on the surface, but still daunting none the less. I am sure if I miss something it won't come off. LOL

Just so I can make a check list my self....tell me if I am wrong please...

1. Take gas tank out
2. Remove steering linkage
3. Bolts under car, under back seat and rear suspension bolt that is sorta hidden.
4. Cables that are going to engine compartment
5. PULL !!

Watched some video's but they were always "prepped" to pull body off just undoing the screws. Engine was gone as was doors hood and engine lid.

OH AND IMPORTANT question...can I leave front and back GLASS in?

There are also bolts under the gas tank as well.

Also, to reduce the weight of the body, remove whatever you can. Doors, deck lid, obviously trunk lid, etc. If you are going to be painting and will be removing windows and stuff, do it now. The lighter that you can make the body for this step, the easier it will be to lift it off.

Also the brake fluid lines that run from the reservoir (on Body)
to the master cylinder (on Chassis)
