just an fyi for anyone looking...
if you need good functional seatbelts and dont need an original replacement....
the seatbelts for a HUMMV fit perfectly in a super beetle. i had to remove a small metal piece and enlarge two of the holes on the back of the reel. the reel mounts to the original angle bracket with stock hardware and the buckle assy just needs the loop widened out a tad bit... and swap bolts. i used longer bolt from the reel bracket on the buckle.
found some cheap on ebay. |

if the standard seatbelts can be swapped out for super-b seatbelts... probably so.
i've got pics on my camera at the house. after i get home from job#2, i'll try to remember to upload em. that might give you and idea. |

here are the pics...
The stuff i got was a complete rear seatbelt conversion kit, for the M998 series HUMMV.. also fits several others. the shipping was as much as the purchsae, but... they're brand new in original package.
stock reel compared to M998 reel
M998 reel with the original reel bracket...
(2 smaller holes needed to be enlarged a bit)
installed
the eyes/loop on the end of the buckle have to be widened a little to fit over the bolt with the shoulder... its longer. could use a washer over it... test fit is good.
these are probably pretty similar to most other "universal" seatbelt sets that use the steel cable for the buckle. i liked it better considering that the cable holds itself up w/o the buckle plugged up. others use a webbed strap and may have a ugly plastic sleeve to hold it up off the floor. still... with shipping, it was a bit over $30 for both sides. and i have a couple pounds of grade 8+ bolts to stock my bins with too. |

Any chance those will work in a Super Beetle convertible? Any chance they are a little longer than the stock seat belts? My wife is short (she's not looking at me type this) and has the seat so far forward that I can't get between the steering wheel and seat. The stock belt works for her, but she has to unbuckle to reach the ignition switch! _________________

Wow, those look great! Looks like I've found a replacement for my crappy non-retractable stock belts in my '69. _________________ '69 Bug,'71 Bus,'61 Bug ,'56 Bug, '66 Panel |

this is the guy i got mine from....
http://www.ebay.com/itm/221098013559?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648
he ships the whole conversion kit complete, so thats the reason for the higher shipping cost. like i said... you end up with some (alot of) extra hardware and some formed metal. i like to cut/weld junk so it gives me some stuff to play with.
for me, the whole kit with both seatbelts was cheaper than others selling a single seatbelt.... and any that were selling both sides. |

smoking deal! if you want 4 the guy cuts you a deal on shipping too. MAM has a similar 3 point set up for..wait for it....
179.99
granted, it might be shinier or something, but for repro seat belts, you cant beat this with a stick. I tried and my stick broke!
also, MAM lists that their kit fits:
Thing (1973 - 1974)
Type 3 (1962 - 1973)
Ghia (1956 - 1974)
Super Beetle (1971 - 1979)
Beetle (1950 - 1977)
so if this one fits a 70s super, it should fit everything else
AND..unfortunatley Ive had experience with quick stops in a HMMWV...the belts work! |

Just got mine today. They fit perfectly after the hole mod. The double fistful of grade 8 hardware was a bonus.
I got them from Ebay seller "defense-acquisitions" _________________ Remember, kids------> KCR Transmissions SUCKS |

Very interested. What kind of after market mounting brackets are needed to mount them? _________________ 1968 VW Beetle | |

Thanks, convertible seat belts are a little different. MAM's entry makes no sense. _________________ Mike

dont they just have that kind of funny thing on the seat and door "pillar" for the mount?
I'd imagine the universal type belt probably has enough slack in it for either application. I havent seen a vert in person (or examined the belts anyways) in a long time, but IIRC, its roughly the same distance isnt it, sinc eyou arent goign as tall, just back farther? |
