|
|
Was looking at the door latch from the inside and notice the door seal does not cover that area. At all. I can see right outside the car. New seal from Wolfsburg. Is this just normal for the seal or am I missing something on the latch to make it seal completely? It's a pretty big gap, lets in lots of noise. Rest of the door is sealed tight (can barely close the door!) but there's that big gap I don't like. |

The door seal is larger at the door latch. It's got a 'flap' that almost sticks out of the gap with the door closed. Sounds like you didn't put the new seal on right. _________________ Daily driver: '69 Baja owned 44 yrs - Plan B: '81 Rabbit Diesel LS Deluxe - Plan C: '72 Ghia

OK, checked my seal, I see what you mean. The 'flap' part is larger in that area. I know the seal is on right because that part is where the latch is. It seems the flap is push in, though, so it doesn't slide against the pillar, if that make sense. |

I just got door rubber from WW and one of them was about a foot too long along the curve part from the top rear corner to the front bottom corner. I cut a section out and reglued. Worked OK but the seal itself is thinner in that area than on the other door. Seems like it got deformed or stretched coming out of the mold but I have never seen how these things are made so just a guess. |

I didn't have to glue my seals from WW at all. They fit perfectly and held. But that edge is nowhere as big as Run posted. I even checked my other door seal, which I haven't put in yet, and it's not even close as that big anywhere around the seal. |

If I got a door seal that was too long I would send it back for replacement. But I've never had an issue with Wolfsburg West. _________________ Brian

"remind me not to buy door rubber from WW! back to West Coast Metric"
note that I wrote MIB...I suspect the other seals that are too large are made in Brazil, as well
WCM most likely will have the same seals
MIG probably won't be a problem _________________ 1963 Type II Kombi

My WW door seals look like yours near the latch. Apart from the length problem on one door my seals fit well with no glue. Airtight too. I can feel and hear the air pressure when I close the door. Post a pic of the gap. |

Will, do, onslow. And I know what you mean. Other than the door gap, these seals are great. I really have to slam the door to make sure it's closed all the way because they are so thick. |
