I'd say a double door sunroof deluxe, if such a model even exists I've never seen one. |
The ex-Martin Clunes (British actor) 70 is a double-slider deluxe sunroof, I think

Sweeeet. Would the bumper/deluxe trim on that 68 be considered a Clipper too??
EDIT: Wait I'm an idot and didn't read the post that I quoted '70 duh. What do you call the bumper trim in this case? _________________ Learn how your vintage VW works. And why it doesn't!

From the article in issue 1 of Aircooled Classics magazine:
Quote: |
Built in 1969 as a walkthrough Deluxe Microbus (Typ 24) on chassis 24 02036925, it features all the Deluxe goodies of steel sliding sunroof, chrome front vent trim and front badge, chrome beltline trim, bumper trim, window protection bars for rear window (and angled ones on the rear side window opposite the spare wheel) and dash clock, as well as high spec trim and finish inside. However, it also sports a host of factory options specified at time of order, including a very rare all black paint finish that was never normally used by VW for production line buses.
The bus was ordered in August 1969 by the millionaire American classic car enthusiast, Edwin C Jameson Jr, who approached a London VW dealership as he was at that time resident in the UK. He wanted a special version of the “new” style model and intended to ship it to the US to add to his extensive collection, and thus had the factory US specs and preparations package D26 / M524 – which included mph speedo, laminated windscreen, padded dashboard, ignition key warning buzzer, sealed beam headlights, all red tail lights, reversing lights, anti dazzle rear view mirror and side reflectors. He also ordered it as a twin sliding door model (M520) with retractable sliding steps (M530).
Initially he was informed by VW that an all black paint option was not possible (though it was available for hearses and taxis), but, possibly because of his status and reputation, VW agreed to do this as a one off. VW also suggested a range of possible extras they felt worth having fitted on a special order bus, and Edwin decided to add an Eberspächer heater (M119), electric fans (M121), heated rear window (M102), whitewall tyres (M128) and heavy-duty shocks. He also opted to have no middle seat bank, no radio and a step on just one side. |
So, for your holy grail, it is missing the middle seat _________________ Ben

Not sure of rarest, but a double door, sunroof Clipper would be what I would want.

I would like to see more of that Volkswagen. The stripe looks like the Wild Westerner style. Not as wild though. _________________ 1956 Canadian Standard Horizon Blue

A double-flipper seat on its own has to be one of the rarest items around, doesn't it? _________________ Ben

^^^ That bus is the one I was picturing when I rambled about this.

Double door bays that aren't panels are seemingly rare. So any deluxe or Kombi with double doors would rank right up there. A couple of the 68 only colors are rare, too. So a 68 DD deluxe sunroof in Arizona Yellow or Lotus White would get my vote. Throw in a clipper trim package and an exotic export destination for good measure. |
