Unless it has had a nose replacement at some time, I have seen pics of other late crossovers with early bumpers but high blinkers, but by late we're talking July & August '72 manufacture.

Borrowing a pic from latebay.com, this one has a manufacture date of 13 July 1972:

The bodyshop that did a load of work on the front end reckoned that the nose was all-original anyway, according to the owner.

If you look close at the bus in the wrecking yard, if you look close you'll see no vent window when you zoom in. The other pic is when I was going to try and find rubber for a non-vent window. I couldn't so I had to convert it to a vent window. Also the mirrors were plastic with glass.[/img]

From my research, this was a government commission (post office) so Volkswagen would use whatever parts they had around & available to keep costs down. This picture is from the body shop, it's bare metal, and you can see the nose is factory. You can see the yellow paint when you zoom in. The bus was built in June of '71.
How's your tire mount coming? Did you get the measurements?

I am super enthused now. I just talked my nephew into the restoring the 69 Sundial with the Adventurewagen top in trade for some work/help I need. I am stoked as is he.
That reminds me I need to take it off of the Classified. Going to keep all of these photos for reference, if you don't mind?

Rick, great work on the other end of the bus! Very impressive!

BTW, my best friend's Dad has a 68 Westy that also has the solid vent windows on the front door. He has owned since new.

I don't know but I actually have 2 the 68 and a european 70. The 70 is in bad shape but I have been thinking of fixing it because its a odd one its a non walk through with the different style westy interior.

Rare in the respect that you live in a market where all buses had vent windows. Every where else had versions of economy that sometimes included no vent windows.

There is a 69 bus out in San Antonio, 9 passenger no vent windows, no destination on the ID plate. Some one brought this over from der fatherland. Cool

I want that bus.

The bus on the right - blue one. This one in the center here is a red interior 68 - 8 pass. Me likey too!

I did get them, thanks (I forgot to reply, sorry!) It's on the back-burner for a little while as we're off to Hong Kong in a couple weeks for our delayed honeymoon, so focus has changed for a time Laughing

Here's an update, just added a stainless steel exhaust pipe from Just Kampers in the UK. This bus is so weird I've had to order from them a lot. Their stuff is awesome quality and they're nice folks too (not a shameless plug Laughing )

I found the M code for the wing windows. All the buses with wing windows have M code M507 - Ventilation windows in cabin doors.

Buses without wing windows simply do not have this M code.
