This is a truly sad looking Karmann Ghia! What would ever possess anyone to to this....and then attempt to get $9,000 for it?

My guess is the headlight area was heavily rusted as well as around the wheel arches. Someone fitted those headlights to cover the bad metal - same with the flares.
Pretty ugly.

My guess is they were smoking something and decided to modify the poor Ghia. Out from under the "haze", they quickly realized what they had done and put this "cluster f***" up for sale.

My thoughts exactly. Headlights look purloined from a late 1960s-early 1970s W108/109 Mercedes.

I was thinking more along the lines of it might have spent some time near Pripyat, Ukraine or possibly Fukushima Japan......
