Today I removed the crappy 009 with the illustrious ignitor II and put in an old 205m off of an old 40 horse I had lyin around. Set the timing with the vacuum disengaged and then ran to the parts store without the advance. Ran ok with no advance. Picked up some vacuum hose and installed accordingly. Runs much nicer in the low range and doesn't take forever to pick up. Now to figure out how to get the carbs diaed in perfectly. It still backfires a little here and there but runs much nicer.

Sounds like you have bus ownership under control. No none touches my Dubs (can't afford it anyway). Although had a pro computer alignment. Only after going over the whole thing with the tech as far as the alignment specs. With only one tierod he couldn't have messed it up.
Since you do your own the only "someone" to worry about is the P.O.

I have fixed plenty of PO stuff, and this winter, I will be removing the windshield and entire dash to finish the job. The PO had nothing to do with the windshield rust, but he did mess with the gauges and wiring enough to make me want to gut it all and start over.
I do my toe-in with a home made sliding rule I built, and I clamp the rear of the wheels toward each other to give it a "thrust" alignment. Works perfectly every time. I use a few spacers and one of my nice carpenter's levels to do the camber adjustment. I haven't done one in awhile, or I cold probably rattle off the numbers. That's what Mr. Bentley is for.

Notchboy, Draconis, Me, Zelten, and a few others were seen today at the XXX.....
what a good turn out for Water and Air coolers! great time, hung out all day, got some digits from a couple girls....all in all a good day

I would say that another issue at hand is say someone adjusts the left tie rod to be a quarter-inch shorter and adjusts the right tie rod a quarter-inch longer the toe-in may remain the same but the geometry involved in the tie rod-swing lever system is compromised. It's complex to explain in detail - this is the best website I could find to explain this principle "ackerman geometry?"

Basic idea is this system allows for variable toe when steering as on a turn, the outside wheel must travel in a bigger circle than the inside wheel thus the inside wheel must be at a sharper angle than the outside wheel. |
In a sense, I think that is what DBM was trying to say. There is much more at play here than just toe-in. Ackerman angle and steering geometry is some interesting stuff, for sure.

installed dynamat on the celiing of the engine compartment, resealed the original insulation, then installed the new panels I made. Installed the fan blower, and installed new rear side marker lights and tail lights. Busy weekend!

Glassed in the new vents so I actually get hot air!
And popped the front signals to find rotted gaskets...  sealed them up with some silicone goo, to be replaced with real seals when (if?) I find them.

| All birtch panels installed, except d/p doors. Full o/h on those. Parts kits ordered from ww. Had one broken regulator. Will clean and greese up the other and the locks. Found a old shop rag in the bottom of one door with a rust outline below it after removed. So treating the rust today after removing the wings. Cut out 2 thin rubber seals. Not using sheet plastic. Took all day to clean the doors yesterday. Guess I'll have to get a thin sheet of plexi-glass and make a door panel and clamp it to a door so I can see to drill the holes for the chrome head snaps that I'm using. Want the doors to match the slider and rear hatch where I used snaps on those. Using all early bay steel hardware than the plastic the late bays came with. The holes don't match up between a early bay and late bay. Using door pull straps too instead of armrest so when I spend the seat around on the passinger side, the door will close because of the armrest mounted in the seat. The square holes in the door are stamped out for em that the snaps for the screws to go in. |

Installed a new exhaust last night. This is the GT style from Mid America - it's an EMPI unit.
Turns out in addition to the hole in the collector on the Bugpack system that was on there, one of the gaskets was bad and was causing a leak, too.
Really quiet inside the bus now!
